Broly is one of the most popular characters in Dragon Ball, although he’s considered non-canon by fans at first. As a matter of fact, this has become a running debate for many fans. Aside from fans debating his canonical status in the story, there are some interesting facts about Broly from Dragon Ball that you probably didn’t know.
So, what are the fascinating facts about this character? Without further ado, let’s get into it!
1. One of the Legendary Super Saiyans
A Legendary Super Saiyan is a Super Saiyan who evolved past Level 2 and 3 -- it’s fair to say that Legendary Super Saiyan is the final form of the Standard Super Saiyan. Vegeta once said that the Legendary Super Saiyan is the true form of the Saiyans.
Usually, it takes deep sorrow or rage for someone to achieve the Legendary Super Saiyan form. Dragon Ball Super: Broly shows that Broly achieves his Legendary Super Saiyan form when he’s full of rage.
The only known Legendary Super Saiyans so far are Broly and Kale.
2. He Abhors Goku
Broly has a deep hatred towards Goku, for a rather petty reason. Broly and Goku grew up in the same nursery. And, Goku was a fussy baby who’d cry a lot. Goku’s crying has made Broly develop a strong resentment towards him.
Due to Broly’s traumatic past, he can only remember Goku’s crying, which makes Broly hates Goku so much.
3. The Most Popular Antagonist in Dragon Ball
It’s been more than 25 years since Broly’s first appearance in Dragon Ball, and he remains one of the most popular antagonists in the series. Broly has appeared in more than one Dragon Ball movie, and he’s a regular character in Dragon Ball video games.
4. His Power is Also His Bane
Despite the fact that Broly was born with insurmountable powers, his Legendary Super Saiyan status actually serves as his curse. By having the power of a Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly possesses powers that are both limitless and uncontrollable.
5. Suffers Multiple Personalities
Broly possibly has the same trait as most antagonists in Dragon Ball, namely his multiple personalities. Broly can be incredibly calm and full of rage.
When he shows his calm demeanor, Broly can be so stoic. Yet when he’s full of rage, he can go as extreme as destroying planets. Broly’s anger also seems to be easily triggered by Goku, and he uses the destructive side of himself to face Goku.

6. Has a Different Combat Style Compared to Most Antagonists
Most antagonists in Dragon Ball have the same fighting style: they tend to poke fun at their enemies before using their ultimate move. However, it’s not the case for Broly.
Broly doesn’t talk much and he would go straight beating Goku up from the get-go
7. Possesses the Power to Destroy Galaxies
Some of the characters in Dragon Ball do have the power to destroy a planet. Yet Broly is levels above them as he can easily destroy multiple galaxies using his powers.
8. Already Reached King Vegeta’s Level of Powers Since His Birth
Unlike most, Broly was born with tremendous powers. As a matter of fact, he was almost on par with the kings of the Saiyans. As a matter of fact, the newly-born Broly was far stronger than Perfect Cell, Goku’s biggest threat in Dragon Ball Z.
It’s also the reason why King Vegeta ordered his people to kill Broly as he poses a threat to his reign.
9. Wears a Device to Suppress His Powers
As it turns out, Broly’s crown serves as means to suppress his own powers. The crown works effectively in toning down his powers. Vegeta wasn’t even able to detect Broly’s powers when he’s looking for a Legendary Super Saiyan, although he’s standing next to him.
10. He’ll Explode If He Ever Loses Control
As mentioned before, Broly possesses tremendous powers, which means he has to constantly emit Ki energies to maintain balance within his body. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to control the Ki trapped in his body, which might lead to him exploding because of his own powers.
