Dina Fritz is a supporting character in Attack on Titan and is a fascinating character to discuss, especially due to her relation to the main character. And, there are some things that you probably didn’t know about Dina Fritz from Shingeki no Kyojin (AoT).

1. The Smiling Titan

Dina was turned into a Mindless Titan, nicknamed the “Smiling Titan” as it appeared to be perpetually smiling. Dina’s Titan form was extraordinarily tall, and, like most common Titans, appeared like a male. The only distinguishing feature was its smile, in which her lips are fixed wide open, exposing her teeth and gums at all times.

Dina’s Titan had a thin frame, with stocky proportions, in which its ribs were visible, and had a long neck. It had medium-length, light hair that reached down to its neck and had sunken, dark eyes -- which was similar to Dina’s facial features when she’s a human.

2. The Last Descendant of the Fritz Family

The Fritz family was the original royal family of Eldia that used the power of the Founding Titan to claim the lands. After the Great Titan War, the Fritz split into two camps, with some staying on the mainland that was conquered by Marley, and the others following Karl Fritz to surround themselves with the walls. The people who went inside the walls disguised themselves as a minor noble family called the Reiss family.

In 824, Dina Fritz was the last remaining descendant of the Fritz royal family. She then joined a restorationist organization and was captured, which led to her being forced to turn into a Mindless Titan. 

3. Grisha Yeager’s Wife, Zeke Yeager’s Mother

When she’s still a human, Dina was married to Grisha Yeager (Eren’s father). Dina met Grisha when she’s still in the Eldian Restorationists. A year after they first met, Grisha and Dina got married and had a son whom they named Zeke Yeager.

4. An Eldian Restorationist

The Eldian Restorationists were a radical group of Eldians in Liberio who aimed to destroy Marley using the Founding Titan and restore Eldia as a world power. They shunned Marley’s teachings and believed them to be lies.

The Eldian Restorationists received funds, weapons, and historical documents from someone they’d call “the Owl”, an informant from the Marley government.

In 824, Dina joined the Eldian Restorationists, introduced herself as a member of the royal family. It’s mentioned that some members of the noble family refused to escape to Paradis along with King Fritz, and Dina was the last remaining member of the family. She and her family hid in Liberio, waiting for the day Eldia would regain power.

Dina brought the revivalists information that was revolutionary, which she found out that the Founding Titan was taken with King Fritz to Paradis Island and that it was key to controlling all of the other Titans to restore Eldia.

5. Turned into a Titan After Being Betrayed by Zeke

When he was 7, Zeke overheard that the Marleyan Authorities were close to discovering the Eldian Restorationists. In an effort to save his grandparents, Zeke reported his parents to the authorities, which led to all of the Eldian Restorationists being captured. Later on, they were sent to Paradis Island, where they would roam as pure Titans.

6. Killed Two of the People Closest to Eren

As a Mindless Titan on Paradis Island, she had killed and eaten two of the people closest to Eren: Carla Yeager and Hannes. Since then, Eren has been dealing with a great deal of pain -- with the death of Hannes breaking Eren the most.

7. An Abnormal Titan Who Ignored Most Humans Other Than Carla Yeager

Not long after Berthold kicked in a hole in Shiganshina District in his Colossal Titan form, Dina walked towards him as he exited his Titan form. Strangely enough, she seemed to not be interested in consuming Berthold. She ignored him and went to Shiganshina, looking for Carla Yeager instead.

Later on, in the last chapter of Attack on Titan, it turns out that it was Eren’s decision to seed the hatred into his version in the past.

8. Played a Role in Awakening the Power of the Founding Titan within Eren

The power of the Founding Titan can only be activated by the descendants of the royal family -- therefore, Eren couldn’t benefit from it. But after Hannes was killed in his effort to save Eren and Mikasa, Dina Fritz was reaching her hand out to Eren, who punched her hand in despair. It activated the power of the Founding Titan within Eren as he gained the power to control the other nearby Titans.

9. The Only Mindless Titan to be Eaten by the Other Mindless Titans

Shortly after Eren got his Founding Titan power activated, the nearby Titans immediately jumped into Dina’s Titan form and gnawed on it, tearing up its body parts, and devouring them, avenging the deaths of Carla and Hannes.

10. Shares the Same Birthday as Sasha Blouse

It’s pretty common to see multiple characters in an anime share the same birthday, and it is the case for Dina Fritz and Sasha Blouse. Both characters would celebrate their birthday on July 26!
