Genshin Impact is an open world game that boasts an incredibly vast map. Due to the extent of the map, the game is divided into several regions or areas. The first area that Travelers encounter when starting to play the game is Mondstadt. It is the first area that welcomes the Traveler on their journey to meet their twin. Mondstadt is known as a friendly city especially with the presence of the Anemo Archon who embraces freedom. On this occasion, Dunia Games would like to show you some fun facts regarding the city, Mondstadt, that you probably didn't know. Without further ado, let's get into it.
1. “Moon City”
Mondstadt means "Moon City" in German. This region is inspired by the real-world Germany. Some of the architecture looks similar to the buildings in Germany. As a matter of fact, much of Mondstadt's theme is that of the city of the Holy Roman Empire, which is modern-day Germany.
2. The Characters' Names Derived from German
Aside from the architecture and the name of the city, which are German-themed, several names of the characters in Mondstadt derived from German. Whether the playable characters or the NPCs in this city, they have German names. For example, Fischl or Prinzessin der Verurteilung, her nickname in German means “Princess of Punishment". There's also Klee, which is a German name that means clover. Other characters also have very German-sounding surnames, such as Diluc Ragvindr and Jean Gunnhildr.
3. The City's Revolution for Freedom
The history of the city of Monstadt has a past full of violence and upheavals. Before it earned the nickname "City of Freedom" by the travelers and artists in Teyvat, this city was actually the most oppressed city. This is because the previous Archon, namely Decarabian, held a dictatorship role in this nation.
He deliberately summoned several wind barriers to prevent his men from leaving Mondstadt. This occurred about 2000 years ago. If you follow Venti's story, he was the one who helped the rebellion in Mondstadt until the dictator Archon was dethroned by Venti/Barbatos to become the city that we know today.
4. Three City Festivals
Since Mondstadt is a City of Freedom, most of its citizens like to have fun as everyone is free to think what they want and go anywhere as long as they don't do any harm. Mondstadt has two main festivals, namely Ludi Harpastum, a festival about games and fun for children that lasts for 15 days that involves the citizens of Mondstadt.
Secondly, there is the Windblume Festival, a love-and-affection-themed festival similar to Valentine's Day, which also commemorates the freedom of Mondstadt 2000 years ago. There's also a special festival for the Anemo Archon, namely Weinlesefest, where Mondstadt residents make wine to present to the Anemo Archon.
5. Barbatos Stepped Down To Avoid Becoming a Tyrant
After taking on the role of the Anemo Archon, he did rule Mondstadt for a period of time. And as Archon, he also had responsibilities to the people. However, Barbatos was afraid that he would become a tyrant, which is the very thing he got rid of. So, to stop himself, Venti left Mondstadt for quite a while and let the citizens of Mondstadt sort themselves out, and it seemed to be quite successful given how the people of Mondstadt live today.
6. A Loose Government System
If you're wondering who actually governs Mondstadt, the Knights of Favonius currently have the highest power to run the government system of Mondstadt during Barbatos' absence. However, the government is not an absolute military one as there are other determining forces in policy in Mondstadt, such as the Church of Mondstadt, which also holds some power.
In addition to that, there is the Seneschal. But since the Knights of Favonius have the most manpower, they do most of the work. Despite that, the government system in Mondstadt is quite loose and similar to democracy as the Knights of Favonius do not carry out invasions and nor do they implement totalitarian laws.
7. The Meaning of Roses in Mondstadt
Roses are often deemed as the symbol of affection or love. But in Mondstadt, this flower has another meaning. The rose is a symbol of wisdom and secrecy for the people of Mondstadt. So, when someone receives or gives a rose, they are asked to be silent about something regardless of whether it is about romance or not.
8. Ridiculed by the People of Liyue
Due to its lax governance system and Barbatos' absence, Mondstadt is in stark contrast to Liyue's strict oligarchy and Morax's hands-on approach to the region. Therefore, the people of Liyue tend to look down on Mondstadt with little respect. For them, Mondstadt is a chaotic city in which rules change. Not to mention that the people of Mondstadt are abandoned by their god.
9. A Mondstadt Citizen Becomes a Candidate for Celestia
Despite looking down at Mondstadt, the people of Liyue do not have any human candidates who are eligible to become Celestia. In Mondstadt, the person who deserves to ascend to Celestia is Venessa, who is currently undergoing or has passed her test in Celestia to ascend to become a god. In the future, this character will probably play an important role in Genshin Impact's main story.
10. Its Terrain Was Very Different In The Past
Barbatos didn't only change the city's culture after she seized control of Mondstadt from the tyrant leader. This Archon also possesses the power to reshape the city's terrain. Barbatos transformed Mondstadt and made it more true to its image as a city of freedom and removed all the scars that Decarabian left.
