Horror is one of the most popular game genres. It’s because you encounter a lot of jumpscares and it will pump your adrenaline. Not a love of people love horror games but the genre is still a primadonna for many gamers.

Not just horror gamers made from outside of Indonesia, there are many Indonesian game developers who made great horror games. What are those games? See the list below to find out.

1. Jurig Escape

Jurig Escape was released in 2009, before DreadOut. Similar to DreadOut, you are playing as a high school student. Your character wakes up in a school and your goal is to survive from Pocong and other ghosts.

2. DreadOut

This horror game is one of the pioneers in game development  in Indonesia. You are playing as Linda, who went on a vacation with her friends. In the middle of the trip, Linda wakes up in a shed.

You have to get out of your location before the ghost that haunts the shed hunts you down. She can fight the ghost with her smartphone.

3. Ghaib

Set in a dark street that is very spooky, Ikrar and Alya are the main characters of this game. They are escaping from Kuntilanak who is chasing them.

The only way to ward it off is by reciting ayat al-kursi and flash your flashlight in its direction.

4. DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark

DreadOut: Keepers of The Dark is a spin-off of DreadOut but still within the same universe. The game is about Linda who is pulled by Lady in Red to the mirror world. Linda has to ward the evil spirits from that world.

5. DreadOut 2

With the success of the first DreadOut and KotD, Digital Happiness announced that the studio was releasing DreadOut 2 in 2018. The sequel game brings better gameplay and visual. So it presents a different gaming experience from the first game.

DreadOut 2 was developed using Unreal Engine, where the gameplay now is more open. You will play as Linda again and picks up her story right after the first DreadOut. Now, Linda can explore the town in the non-linear open-world system. She can also interact with the NPCs and complete tasks.

6. DreadEye VR

If you own virtual reality hardware like Oculus Rift, then you should try this awesome game developed by Digital Happiness, DreadEye VR. In this game, you are playing as a shaman. You can brew potions for a ritual, and open the gate to the mystical world to contact spirits and more.

Because it’s a VR game, DreadEye VR is scarier than the first and second DreadOut. Why? Because with VR technology you will feel like everything is happening right in front of your eyes!

7. Pamali

The full title is Pamali: Indonesian Folklore Horror, a game that will tell you about a young man named Jaka. He is faced with ghostly events after returning to his hometown. Here you have to solve the mystery of the old house Jaka inherits.

8. Pulang: Insanity

The story of Pulang: Insanity is set in 2005, where the main character, Muhammad Rudiansyah is a  man in a lot of debt. With his financial situation, he decided to take the shortcut to solve his debt. His friend then asked him to join the Pesugihan rite that requires a human sacrifice.

9. Jurit Malam

This Indonesian horror game is made in collaboration with Lola Zieta, a famous model and cosplayer, as the protagonist of the game. Jurit Malam is about an indigo girl named Rei who hears the cry of a girl when walking past an old school building.

10. Motte Island

The final game on this list is Motte Island, a horror game developed by three countries, America, England, and Indonesia. The game is developed by Gamebell Studio and it’s available on Steam. In this game, you are playing as a murderer who returned to the island where he was born to save his sister that is haunted by evil spirits.
