If we’re talking about soccer games nowadays, that talk evidently will lead to a debate between FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). It turns out that aside from those two games, there are plenty of soccer titles that once a popular among gamers and soccer fans alike.
Here are ten soccer games aside from FIFA and PES that once hook people. How many titles down here that you familiar with?
1. FIFA Street
Even though using FIFA on the title, FIFA Street is very different from the usual FIFA games you played. In this game, you will play the green field stars like Ronaldinho and Thierry Henry in a mini soccer tournament that takes place in a small area like we used to do as kids. Simply put, a futsal match.
Surely this soccer match, aka futsal match getting serious due to each player can trick opponents. This game once a popular back in PS2 days, but in FIFA 20, FIFA Street received a rebranding in the name of Volta.
2. Football Manager
Aside from PES and FIFA, another football game that loved by many until this day is Football Manager. Hence the name, the game made by Sports Interactive, is a soccer management simulation game that challenges players to play as a coach of a soccer team.
This game is very popular due to the realistic features it offered. You can adjust your team’s play flow, recruit new stars, interview with media, and transfer to other teams and train them in a game, which also known as FM among fans.
3. Championship Manager
Before the FM series as famous as it is today, the soccer simulation game once conquered by Championship Manager (CM). Similar to FM, CM is a soccer game that allows you to play as a manager of a soccer team.
It was released back in the 90s, and this game received its popularity in the 2000s. Sadly, the game later dethroned by FM. Even so, soccer fans in the 90s surely cannot forget this masterpiece.
4. This is Football 2002
This is Football these days surely beaten up by FIFA and PES in terms of popularity, but when this game released for PS2, this game once sought massive fanbase. This game starred Rio Ferdinand on the cover once became one of the most favorable soccer games in PS2. Unfortunately, the next installment failed to deliver innovations and died over time.
5. RedCard
If you missed playing RedCard back in PS2, you might be missed something great in your life. This soccer game came differently because it allowed players to do extreme and dangerous fouls to opponents like leg tackles to headbutting the opponent’s body.
You can also initiate super moves in this game. RedCard also didn’t hold back to come out differently as you can unlock different teams like a SWAT team, Samurai team, and Dolphin team.
6. Super Shot Soccer
The absurd concept offered by RedCard was not too weird for soccer fans in Indonesia because a few years back, Indonesia gamers once fell in love with Super Shot Soccer. Released as an arcade game in Japan, this crazy yet addictive soccer game transformed into a popular PSX game in the country.
In this game, you will play as various soccer teams from multiple countries across the world. What makes this game unique is each national team has various “crazy super moves” for you to use, starting from Saudi Arabia’s sandstorm, South Korean’s Fire Tackle, to Japan’s Dragon Kick.
7. Captain Tsubasa Series
As the popular soccer anime series in the world, Captain Tsubasa released various soccer games for different consoles. One of the famous games was Captain Tsubasa J: Get In The Tomorrow that brings you into Captain Tsubasa’s world compete with unique “shoots.”
Also, there is another game titled Captain Tsubasa: Aratanaru Densetsu Joshou that came out as a strategy game compared to usual soccer games. The game later followed by a popular mobile game titled Captain Tsubasa: Dream Team.
8. Ronaldo V-Football
At the beginning of 2002, Ronaldo was one of the famous athletes in the world. Using his popularity, a video game developer called Pam Development released Ronaldo V-Football in 2000.
With soothing graphics at that time, this game once popular because it offered World Cup mode according to Ronaldo’s point of view. Sadly, the game only summoned one title and didn’t continue.
9. Rocket League
Rocket League is a soccer game that comes very differently from other games in this game. Instead of playing as a soccer player, no, humans, you will play as a car. Even so, the game managed to bring a new experience in gaming. With cross-platform service, this game has a massive fanbase to this day.
10. Winning Eleven
We admit that we cheated enough to put Winning Eleven in this list of other soccer games aside from PES and FIFA because Winning Eleven and PES is the same game. Back to the days where it was released, Konami registered Winning Eleven for Asia markets and Pro Evolution Soccer PES) for Europe and the United States.
To avoid confusion at the beginning of the 2000s, Konami decided to use PES only for the main brand. Even so, it can’t be denied that many Indonesian games had a beautiful childhood with Winning Eleven.
