After the circulating rumors, Warner Bros finally shared some images from the set of Mortal Kombat film. The film adapted from the fighting game also shows an Indonesian actor in action, Joe Taslim. Who will play Sub-Zero and a Japanese actor, Hiroyuki Sanada who will play Scorpion. The film is slated to be released on 12 April 2021. However, before you watch the film, there are several powerful Mortal Kombat characters that you should know, who are they?

1. Raiden

Out of all Mortal Kombat characters, Raiden is the strongest character. He is an immortal nicknamed “God of Thunder”. The character with the iconic coolie hat has been present since the first Mortal Kombat game. He is an outstanding fighter and can beat Shao Kahn. as the god of thunder, Raiden can manipulate thunder. Raiden can also use teleportation and manipulate his body into an unreal form.

As a god, Raiden’s power will be stripped when he is not in an area where he is from. With that status, Raiden is prohibited from directly participating in the Mortal Kombat tournament. However, Raiden often works behind the scene and becomes the wise character and fight evil.

2. Shao Kahn

Shao Kahn is also one of the first characters to ever appear in the Mortal Kombat franchise. The character appeared as an annoying boss character. He is a demon who invades Earth. As a demon, Shao Kahn is known for his strength. He is the brain behind every crime on Earth and the one who founded the Mortal Kombat tournament.

With his tremendous power, Shao Kahn easily defeated Kung Lai. Shao Kahn also carries a weapon called Wrath Hammer, where he can fling his opponent away with one swing.

3. Onaga

Onaga or  Dragon King is a character who appeared in the fighting game. Onaga was first introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deception, where he became the antagonist and boss. Onaga reappeared in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon as one of the playable characters.

As the king of the dragon race, Onaga has tremendous strength. He can unleash Fireball and Flame Breath to take out his opponent. Onaga is also known for his physical strength.

4. Kronika 

Besides Shao Kahn, Kronika is also an enemy who appeared in the Mortal Kombat franchise. The character nicknamed Keeper of the Hourglass is quite unique because she is far stronger than Shao Kahn. with her hourglass, Kronika can easily (and quickly) best Raiden and revive him (alongside Shao Kahn) to put them under her control.

5. Blaze

laze is a terrifying character in Mortal Kombat. He made his debut in Mortal Kombat II as a background character and as a hidden character in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Blaze is an elemental shrouded in flames and he can project various power related to fire.

6. Liu Kang

Liu Kang is the fan-favorite character in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Especially since Liu Kang is the only character with a spin-off game titled Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monk.

Liu Kang is identic with his Bruce Lee-like fighting style, he even has the same cry when launching attacks. One of Liu Kang’s iconic moves is his bicycle kick. Liu Kang obtained his fighting style after years of training with Bo Rai Cho.

7. Scorpion

Next is Scorpion, one of the first characters to appear in the Mortal Kombat franchise. He is one of the ninjas in Mortal Kombat and known as one of the merciless characters. But Scorpion is not an antagonist, because he is an anti-hero. He did evil doings to avenge his clan. On some occasions, Scorpion even indirectly helped the protagonist of Mortal Kombat.

Scorpion has amazing physical strength. He can manipulate power. He also has chains that can extend and pierce the enemy’s body.

8. Sub-Zero

If Scorpion is related to fire, then Sub-Zero is the opposite. He is also one of the first characters to appear in Mortal Kombat. Sub-Zero’s power is to freeze his enemies with the temperature reaching up to minus 500 degrees Fahrenheit. His frozen enemies will be destroyed to pieces when touched. Sub-Zero’s control over ice is stunning. He even layers his body with ice to raise his fighting power.

9. Goro

Goro is a huge, muscular, and champion character, and the only four-armed character in Mortal Kombat. His horrifying face, four arms, and muscular build helped Goro beat his opponents easily. Goro is so brutal that he won nine consecutive Mortal Kombat tournaments or for 500 years! No one can beat the champion within that 500 years.

But Goro’s streak ended when he faced Liu Kang from Earthrealm.

10. Kung Lao 

Kung Lao is a character from China in Mortal Kombat. His fighting style is a combination of Shaolin and Kenpo. When he was first introduced, many thought that Kung Lao’s style is similar to Liu Kang.

Besides his dangerous fighting style, Kung Lao often utilized his hat to attack his opponent. He even used his sharp hat to cut his opponent.
