The death of King T’Challa from Black Panther by Marvel Cinematic Universe saddens the fandom. Chadwick Boseman, the actor died after fighting colon cancer for 4 years. Now Marvel fans are asking who will take the throne of Wakanda. Replacing actors or actresses in the Marvel universe commonly occurs, like how the multiple faces of the Hulk, from Edward Norton to Mark Ruffalo, Terrence Howard to Don Cheadle as War Machine.
Even Michael B Jordan who played as Erik Killmonger in the Black Panther film is said to be the next Black Panther after the death of Chadwick Boseman. This is because He is related to the king of Wakanda. Marvel fans are wondering, will Michael reappear as Killmonger and become Black Panther or will Michael replace Chadwick’s role as Black Panther.
Meanwhile in the Marvel comic book universe, exist multiple versions of Black Panther. It’s because of the alternate universe besides Earth-616 in Marvel Comics, so not a lot of people know about the other versions of Black Panther. Maybe MCU will adapt one of the Black Panther versions to replace Chadwick in the future Black Panther version.

1. Spider-Virus Panther
In Earth-19919, Black Panther is infected with a virus that made him a human spider. This happens in the Spider-Island comic where Spider Queen is the main villain with an ability to anyone into a human spider with a kiss.
With her beautiful face, she infects several superheroes with her virus, including Peter Parker that transforms into a spider! Black Panther also becomes a victim of Spider Queen making him a vile spider humanoid.
2. Ghost Panther
This started when Black Panther’s wife, Storm has her energy removed and her memory wiped. When Storm’s power is removed, her energy and the physical body are placed in a mutant storage called Pipeline. Tony Stark that was working for Consortium tried to free Storm so she can return to her initial form but instead in cause Storm’s energy and memory to go berserk. This causes Storm to have a new identity called Ghost Panther after Tony Stark gave her an armor.
Along with X-Men, Morlock, and Arcangel, Ghost Panther fights Evil Storm and her evil force in Wakanda. She became the ruler of Wakanda after the fight and retain a good relation with X-Men and Avengers.
3. "Happy Pants" Black Panther
Black Panther is known to be firm and serious, it’s because he is a king so T’Challa tried to set an example for his people.
But in Black Panther Vol 3#35 and #38, Black Panther met his future self. This version of him is different from his current personality since the future him is much brighter and loves to crack jokes.
4. Black Panther Versi Manga
In the Mangaverse, Black Panther appears different from the usual, T’Challa here is more suited to be called a werepanther because he somewhat mimics a werewolf. Instead of wearing a vibranium costume, he transforms into a literal Black Panther. In this version, T’Challa changes his look to appear like an eagle.
5. A-Baby Panther
In the A-Babies Vs. X-Babies comic that tells us about the battle of Avengers and X-men that appears as a baby, all characters look adorable and the plot is straightforward yet fun.
The story began when Cyclops stole Captain America’s teddy bear called Bucky Bear. in rebuttal, A-Babies then tried to take Bucky Bear back from X-Babies. We also got to witness the puppy love between baby Black Panther and baby Storm.

6. Zombieverse Black Panther
As we all know, T’Challa is a wealthy king from Wakanda, but he once lost everything, including his vibranium costume. In the Zombieverse story, Hank Pym became a zombie and caught Black Panther to eat him. But T’Challa managed to escape with missing right arm and leg because of the Wasp that attacked him.
For 40 years in the run, T’Challa managed to build New York into the New Wakanda. But at one point, an assassin enters the country and stabbed T’Challa. The only way of him surviving is by becoming a zombie.
7. White Tiger
The existence of White Tiger started when Kevin Cole, a policeman that keep on acting on his own when fighting the drug lords. He ‘borrowed’ the Black Panther costume left behind on his superior’s locker when raiding the criminal’s base. Thanks to the costume, he survived the gang war, although he finally got punished and dismissed because he didn’t use his uniform during work.
Looking at the desperate Cole, Erik Killmonger tried to help him by offering a way to obtain a superpower by consuming a fruit that looks like a synthetic hear (to find an ally to beat Black Panther). In the end, Cole no longer uses the Black Panther costume and become a part of the White Tiger of panther Cult under the leadership of Killmonger.
8. Coal Tiger
Coal Tiger is an original character from Black Panther. But along the way, Marvel changes him into Black Panther. The first Coal Tiger can be found in Earth-355, as an alternative version of T’Challa. T’Challa of this world is infected by a dangerous chemical and the only way of saving him is by killing T’Chall from another universe. He chooses not to kill the other him and result in his own death.
9. Female Black Panther
When T’Challa is in a long coma and can longer sit on the Throne of Wakanda, Shuri takes over as Black Panther. Shuri replaces T’Challa’s role as Black Panter until he makes a complete recovery. Shuri is also the Black Panther in another universe, including the Marvel Universe Vs. Punisher series.
The alternate series also emphasized that Shuri possessed the potential to be the next Black Panther. Even Black Panther’s Executive Producer, Nate Moore revealed that Black Panther is a mantle, so we are not limited to one individual.
10. Black Panther 2099
What happens when T’Challa dies? In the comic, the successor of Black Panther is T’Challa’s son named K’Shamba. There he takes over the role as the King of Wakanda and fights Dr. Doom. He lost the fight and flee from Wakanda with his wife, M’tolla.
K’Samba then joins Wakanda’s resistance force. From there he obtained his Black panther costume back and fight DR. Doom again. He finally beats Doom and kicks him out of Wakanda. But here’s the plot twist. K’Shamba is a puppet of Dr. Doom to ensure his ruling over Wakanda.
