Square Enix is one of the best game developers in the world. There is no doubt about his work in making games. Previously Square Enix was the result of a merger of two companies between Square Soft and Enix. After the PlayStation 1 era, Square Soft merged with Enix.

One of Square Enix's best Intellectual Property (IP) is Final Fantasy. Knowing that Final Fantasy has a large fan base, Square Enix began to do some experiments by presenting several genres that have been released in addition to RPG.

Talking about genres, Final Fantasy itself has actually been developed into various genres. Starting from shooter games, card games, to battle royale. There are games that succeed, there are also those that fail. What are the games? Find out on the following list.

1. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII - Shooter

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII is a spin-off of Final Fantasy VII is probably the only Final Fantasy game that uses third-person shooter gameplay.

The main character of Dirge of Cerberus is Vincent Valentine. In the game, he will fight Shinra's secret army called Deepground. In addition to using his gun, Vincent can also use magic and turn into a monster.

This game was released in 2006 on PS2, and managed to divide Final Fantasy fans. Some like the game because it offers different genres. There are also those who hate it because they feel it doesn't match the RPG essence of Final Fantasy. Which one do you choose?

2. Final Fantasy Digital Card Game - Card Game

Final Fantasy Digital Card Game is an example of a Final Fantasy game that is developed into a card game. In this game, gamers can arrange decks whose cards are inspired from iconic characters, monsters, and summons from Final Fantasy games. The uniqueness of this game is the graphic display that uses 16-bit sprites. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy Digital Card Game doesn't last long. Announced in 2019, the game shut down in 2020.

Besides Final Fantasy Digital Card Game, there are other Final Fantasy card games. Triple Triad, for example, is a mini-game in Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy XIV. Even Final Fantasy Mobius also uses a card system even though it's not 100 percent a card game.

3. Chocobo Racing - Racing

Next, for fans of Final Fantasy in the 90s, you must be familiar with Chocobo Racing. Yup, this classic game was released on PS1 and uniquely coincided with the launch of Crash Team Racing and Mario Kart. Like taking advantage of the moment, the developer Square was experimenting with creating a racing game that utilized a number of unique characters in the Final Fantasy franchise.

4. Chocobo's Dungeon - Dungeon Crawler

In addition to the racing genre, Chocobo also appears as a dungeon crawler combined with a roguelike game. This game is still related to Final Fantasy because the main character is a Chocobo.

Chocobo's Dungeon was originally only available in Japan. This game became known after its sequel, Chocobo's Dungeon 2 was released. The game that was released on PS1 was made into an English version and released globally.

The gameplay of Chocobo's Dungeon is very simple. Players as Chocobo will explore a dungeon filled with traps and monsters. The dungeon will change upon exiting.

5. Dissidia Final Fantasy - Fighting Game

Who would have thought that Square Enix's experiment by developing a fighting game from Final Fantasy IP actually succeeded. Through Dissidia Final Fantasy, this fighting game brings together iconic characters from all Final Fantasy games. The storyline of Dissidia always involves gods and goddesses at war. Because they were not allowed to fight, these goddesses and gods summoned Final Fantasy characters to represent them. Starting from Warrior of Light to Sephiroth present in this game as characters.

Dissidia's newest game is Dissidia Final Fantasy NT which was released on PS4. This game was made by Team Ninja, which is a developer owned by Koei Tecmo.

The proof is that Final Fantasy Tactics has successfully spawned its successor, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, then continued with Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.

7. Final Fantasy XIV - MMORPG

Final Fantasy XIV or now reborn as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a Final Fantasy game that has been reworked into an MMORPG. The history of this game is quite interesting. At first, Final Fantasy XIV Online was considered a failed project. Square Enix then decided to remake Final Fantasy XIV Online into Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Even though it's 8 years old (Counted from A Realm Reborn which was released in 2013), Final Fantasy XIV is not the only MMORPG game with a Final Fantasy theme. Previously there was Final Fantasy XI which is also an MMORPG game and much older than Final Fantasy XIV. The game is approximately 19 years old because it was released in 2002.

8. Theatrhytm Final Fantasy - Rhytm Game

Next Theatrhytm Final Fantasy is a mobile game themed Final Fantasy rhythm genre. In this game, gamers must press the input button that matches the music. The first game was released in 2012 for 3DS and iOS. A sequel to the game entitled Theatrhytm Final Fantasy: All-Star Carnival followed in 2014.

There are various soundtracks in this game. Starting from the main Final Fantasy series to spin-offs like Dissida. Even the music from the movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is in this game.

9. World of Final Fantasy - Monster Capture

In 2016, Square Enix released World of Final Fantasy which allows gamers to catch monsters. Once captured, these monsters can be used as party members. In addition to monsters, several iconic Final Fantasy characters are also present in this game.

World of Final Fantasy was first released on PS4 and PS Vita in 2016. This game was then ported to other platforms in 2018. The main characters of World of Final Fantasy are Lann and Reynn. Players can choose the form of these two characters, namely the original form or the chibi form aka Lilikins.

10. Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier - Battle Royale

Lastly, Square Enix doesn't seem to want to be left behind with the current battle royale trend. This is why Square Enix created Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, the first battle royale game with a Final Fantasy theme. This game is intended for android and iOS. Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is slated for release in 2021.

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is set 30 years before the events of Final Fantasy VII occur. The gameplay of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier is unique in that it combines melee with gunfight. In addition, players can also use magic and have a job system.
