Fans of the epic Hack n Slash series Dynasty Warriors made by Koei Tecmo and Omega Force are very much pampered by the game studios in 2021 as they welcome the upcoming Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires as well as Dynasty Warriors Movie which appears on Netflix at the beginning of July 2021.

As if wishing to satisfy the fans of the series, the live action movie of Dynasty Warriors is presented as faithful to the game as possible from its warfare background, jaw-dropping fighting scenes with Musou elements all the way to the characters’ depiction. Speaking of the characters, there are 11 Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires that make an appearance in Dynasty Warriors Movie, and they are:

1. Cao Cao

Cao Cao is the ruler of the Wei Kingdom in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires who also appears in Dynasty Warrior Movie as one of the protagonists, with Kai Wang playing the role of the young Cao Cao during his time as a Han Dynasty cavalry captain. He follows through the beginning of Cao Cao’s struggle from his treason toward Dong Zhuo’s governance all the way to his victory at the legendary Hu Lao Gate battle.

2. Liu Bei

Liu Bei is the leader of the Shu Kingdom in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires who also appears in Dynasty Warriors Movie as a protagonist alongside Cao Cao, with Tony Yo-ning playing the role of the young Liu Bei who cherishes his citizens. As the descendant of the king, Liu Bei manages to gather loyal followers through his respected appeal, although he starts humbly by fighting through wars along with his sworn brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.

3. Guan Yu

Guan Yu is a general of Shu Kingdom  in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires who makes a major appearance in Dynasty Warriors Movie, with Geng Han playing the role of the legendary god of war. At first, Guan Yu is only a guard in a humble village, but later on he finds himself tearing through the massive battlefields with his might which leads him to become Liu Bei’s war commander with his legendary long beard whom Cao Cao respects.

4. Zhang Fei

Justin Cheung plays the role of Zhang Fei, army leader of the Shu Kingdom in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires who appears in Dynasty Warriors Movie as a drunkard and temperamental man. He formerly worked as a pork butcher until Liu Bei invited him to swear an oath with Guan Yu in the Peach Garden to become sworn brother. He is brutal in fighting the enemies which complement Guan Yu’s might and Liu Bei’s intelligence in struggling together.

5. Sun Jian

Mickey Yuan casts Sun Jian the leader of the Wu Kingdom in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires, a character who also appears in Dynasty Warriors Movie as a general with unrivaled bravery as he attacks the Hu Lao Gate and ends up conquering the capital city Luo Yang with his army. He manages to get his hand on the Imperial Seal, a symbol of authority to whoever possesses it.

6. Sun Ce

First son of Sun Jian in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires also makes an appearance in Dynasty Warriors Movie with Wang Xin playing the role of the brave leader of the Wu Kingdom. Always accompanying his father wherever he goes, Sun Ce is destined to continue his father’s legacy to rule Wu Kingdom with his younger brother Sun Quan following them as well, although the movie depicts him still as a child.

7. Lu Bu

Strongest general of the Han Dynasty in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires appears in Dynasty Warriors Movie with Louis Koo taking the role of the mighty and near unbeatable Lu Bu. He appears in every Dynasty Warriors title as a terrifying warlord in every battle, although he does have a soft spot in his heart when facing his dream girl Diao Chan.

8. Dong Zhuo

Dynasty Warriors Movie’s main antagonist Dong Zhuo is the prime minister of Han Dynasty in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires whom Lam Suet portrays as a tyrant who loves collecting mistresses including Diao Chan, all while everyone else wishes to overthrow him due to his authoritative governance.

9. Zhang Jiao

Leader of the Yellow Turban rebels in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires is portrayed by Philip Keung in Dynasty Warriors Movie as a wizard who creates the cult of the Yellow Turban and has a particular spell which enhances the Yellow Turban rebels to become strong, brutal and mindless almost like zombies.

10. Yuan Shao

Yuan Shao is the leader of the 12 Generals alliance in Dynasty Warriors 9 makes an appearance in Dynasty Warriors Movie with Ray Lui portraying his character to look as similar as possible to his game counterpart. Although he is the leader of the alliance who plans to overthrow Dong Zhuo’s leadership, it is he who struggles to maintain composure during the battle of Hu Lao Gate due to Lu Bu and his powerful army’s presence at the location demoralizing him.

11. Diao Chan

Coulee Nazha or Gulnazar is an Uighur actress who portrays Diao Chan from Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires in Dynasty Warriors Movie as a fanservice character who adds beauty to the overall movie as she and Lu Bu develop the only romantic relationship in the movie.
