Haikyuu is an anime series about volleyball and is currently one of the most popular ones. Of the many characters in Haikyuu, some of them have become fan-favorites for several reasons. So, who are the most popular characters in Haikyuu? Without further ado, let’s get into it!

1. Shimizu Kiyoko

Kiyoko may be the reason for some male viewers to keep watching this anime series. Kiyoko is a serious, quiet girl who’s passionate about her role as the team manager -- which has been proven with her three consecutive years of tending to Karasuno.

She cares deeply about all of the team members, as shown when Kiyoko washes and fixes Karasuno’s banners to support the players’ morale. She’s certainly the best girl in Haikyuu!

2. Hitoka Yachi

Another popular female character in Haikyuu is Hitoka Yachi. Although most fans didn’t particularly find Hitoka likable earlier in the story, over time, most fans started to accept and actually love Hitoka’s silly behaviors.

Hitoka was a first-year student who got recruited by Kiyoko as the assistant manager. She tends to be paranoid and gets easily intimidated by many things. However, those things make Hitoka a unique character.

3. Ushijima Wakatoshi

Ushijima Wakatoshi was a third-year student at Shiratorizawa Academy and the captain of the Shiratorizawa boys’ volleyball team. Ushijima was the number one ace in Miyagi Prefecture among the top three aces in Japan. Due to his playing style, Ushijima has become one of the most popular characters in Haikyuu.

4. Miya Atsumu

Miya Atsumu was a second-year student at Inarizaki High who’s known for being the best high school setter in Japan as well as the best server at his school. Atsumu is quite popular among female fans.

5. Miya Osamu

Atsumu’s twin brother who also played for Inarizaki High is also quite popular -- although he’s still under the shadow of his twin brother.

6. Keiji Akaashi

At number six, we have Keiji Akaashi, the calm and composed setter of Fukurodani Academy, and the “tamer” of Bokuto -- Fukurodani’s ace. Although he’s quiet, Akaashi is actually really blunt with the things he says, often using witty comments and responses.

7. Kenma Kozume

Due to his reserved personality, Kenma is one of the most composed players at Nekoma High. He always seems to be calm and collected, except for some occasions such as when he’s playing video games.

Often dubbed the "heart" of the team, Kenma doesn’t like being the center of attention, that’s why he rarely speaks in public.

8. Bokuto Kotaro

Bokuto is one of the most popular characters in Haikyuu due to his playful and child-like personality. Even the manager of his team refers to him as simple-minded. His childish behaviors are often made worse with his mood swings.

9. Koushi Sugawara

Sugawara was the setter at Karasuno High who’s adored by his teammates because of his soothing and gentle personality -- as well as his contagious unyielding attitude. Due to these traits, Sugawara was also often referred to as the motherly figure at Karasuno High, who would break off fights between the players.

10. Tsukishima Kei

Tsukishima tends to be arrogant and was always looking for trouble with anyone he meets -- such as mocking or intimidating his opponents. Initially, Tsukishima wasn’t even popular among his peers due to his arrogance and antagonistic nature. He’d also often express his pride in taking down his opponents.

However, these tendencies were just a facade of his low self-esteem. Yet as time goes on, Tsukishima began to reduce his rudeness, which made him one of the fan-favorites in Haikyuu.

11. Tetsuro Kuroo

Tetsuro Kuroo is one of the most popular characters in Haikyuu, who shares similar characteristics with Tsukishima. He’d often provoke others with snide remarks. He even successfully made Tsukishima angry.

However, Kuroo always apologizes every time he makes a mistake -- which is why he’s one of the fan-favorites in the series.

12. Oikawa Tooru

Oikawa was the setter at Aoba Johsai High and the main antagonist of the first season. In Haikyuu, Oikawa’s hugely popular among female students due to his looks, charm, and his flirty attitudes.

Behind his lazy and playful nature, Oikawa has a strong passion as a volleyball player. He’s also able to spot both the strengths and weaknesses of his opponents on the court.

13. Nishinoya Yu

Nishinoya Yu was the libero at Karasuno High, who’s very energetic and cheerful. His “chaotic” nature often puts him in trouble, yet he never gets bothered with it. Nishinoya is also a great teammate who always considers the feelings and insecurities of his friends at Karasuno High.

14. Kageyama Tobio

Due to his temper and arrogance, initially, Kageyama wasn’t particularly popular among viewers or even the characters in the series.

However, after joining the Karasuno High volleyball team, he’s able to gradually change his attitude and started to get accepted by his peers.

15. Hinata Shoyo

It’s not that surprising to find that the main character of the series is the most popular one in Haikyuu. Hinata is a cheerful and childish character who tends to be clumsy from time to time. Having no prior experience in playing volleyball, he manages to develop as a player at Karasuno High.
