The live-action adaptation of the phenomenal soccer manga Blue Lock is confirmed for release in Japanese theaters in the summer of 2026, following an official announcement at the Blue Lock Egoist Festa 2025 event in Tokyo. The film is based on the manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, known for its competitive soccer narratives focused on creating the world's best striker through the "ego" system.

The production team, CREDEUS, has selected actors deemed capable of realistically portraying the characters in Blue Lock, emphasizing their physical preparation and soccer technique. Auditions were conducted on a large scale, with over a thousand participants, emphasizing visual compatibility, acting ability, soccer experience, and personal character. Some players even underwent intensive training under the guidance of professional coaches for over a year before filming began.

So far, four actors have been confirmed to play the main characters in the live-action Blue Lock. Here's the list:

1. Fumiya Takahashi as Yoichi Isagi

The lead role goes to Fumiya Takahashi, who was officially announced as Yoichi Isagi, the story's main protagonist. Isagi is portrayed as a high school forward with exceptional spatial abilities, unwavering determination, and the ambition to become the best striker to lead Japan to World Cup glory.

Takahashi is widely known for his roles in the Kamen Rider Zero-One franchise and several popular drama projects. In Blue Lock, he not only portrays Isagi in a dramatic role but also had to develop his soccer skills through intensive training for over a year and a half to deliver an authentic and convincing performance on the field.

In his announcement, Takahashi stated that playing Isagi was a great honor and that he approached the role with deep respect for the original work. The decision to cast Takahashi as Isagi was a major focus of the film's initial promotional campaign, which featured the first visual poster with the tagline "Ego Assembles," highlighting Blue Lock's core themes of ego and fierce competition among players.

2. Kaito Sakurai as Meguru Bachira

The next cast member to be announced is Kaito Sakurai as Meguru Bachira, a fan-favorite character in Blue Lock. Bachira is known for his razor-sharp instincts, unique dribbling skills, and unpredictable playing style that makes him difficult for opponents to contain.

Sakurai already has a reputation for playing Aqua in the live-action adaptation of Oshi no Ko, and his involvement in the Blue Lock film has sparked great enthusiasm among fans. During the casting announcement, Sakurai was credited with effectively capturing Bachira's free and wild energy, a character who often takes center stage in big Blue Lock matches.

3. Kyohei Takahashi as Hyoma Chigiri

The third actor announced is Kyohei Takahashi, who will play Hyoma Chigiri, a player known for his explosive speed and graceful presence on the court, often nicknamed the "selfish princess" by teammates and opponents due to her unique playing style.

Chigiri is a compelling character due to her personal conflict. Despite her immense talent, she has experienced injuries that have left her doubting her own potential. The role of Chigiri requires emotional depth as well as physical prowess, making Takahashi's involvement a significant addition to the cast.

4. Kota Nomura as Rensuke Kunigami

The fourth actor officially announced for the live-action Blue Lock is Kota Nomura, who plays Rensuke Kunigami. Kunigami is known as a power forward with a strong physique and a powerful left-footed shot. Unlike many other characters in Blue Lock who rely on technique or instinct, Kunigami has a more direct playing style that emphasizes power.

Within the context of the story, Kunigami is often positioned as a character with high ideals. He believes in "fair" football and has a heroic view of the striker's role, which often puts him at odds with Jinpachi Ego's extreme philosophy. This character provides a significant contrast among the other, more egotistical and opportunistic players.

The selection of Kota Nomura was deemed appropriate because he possesses a physical image that matches Kunigami's, as well as experience playing characters with discipline and strong principles. In early promotional materials, the production team stated that Nomura underwent intensive physical training to adapt to Kunigami's playing style, including leg strength training and one-on-one duels.

Kunigami's presence is also structurally important in the film, as he serves as a balance to the dynamics of Team Z. His interactions with Isagi, Bachira, and Chigiri often trigger ideological conflicts within the team, not just technical ones on the pitch. This makes Kunigami's role not merely a supporting character, but a crucial part of building the drama and tension of the story.
