1. Dubbed as “The Monster” by Doflamingo

Ryokugyu's name was first mentioned in the Dressrosa arc. At that time, Doflamingo called him a "monster" who passed the test to become a Marine Admiral. If someone like Doflamingo said Ryokugyu a monster, surely we can guess how powerful he is.

Ryokugyu joined the force to replace Akainu who was promoted to Fleet Admiral, while Fujitora replaced Akainu who left the Marines. Fujitora looksed friendly with Ryokugyu in the Reverie arc where they chat casually.

Ryokugyu was introduced in chapter 905, precisely at the beginning of the Reverie arc. Until chapter 1019, he has not been shown again. At that time, he and Fujitora were seen chatting casually. They look very friendly towards each other.

At the end of the Reverie arc, Ryokugyu and Fujitora engage in a battle against Sabo and the 3 Revolutionary Army Commanders at Mary Geoise. The fate of the battle is unknown. 3. The Insipiration Behind His Creation

Even though he’s still a silhouette to this day, Ryokugyu's design was likely inspired by the famous old samurai movie Hoshio Harada. This is because the other 4 Admirals were also inspired by famous movie stars of the same period.

Akainu = Bunta Sugawara, Aokiji = Yusaku Matsuda, Kizaru = Kinue Tanaka, and Fujitora = Shintaro Katsu. They starred in the same movie called Ronin-gai (1990).

4. His Possible Devil Fruit Type

In addition to his mysterious appearance, Ryokugyu’s devil fruit is still mysterious as well. Some say that he is a Zoan type fruit eater due to perfecting the three 3 devil fruits possessed by the Admirals.
