5 Fun Facts About Hajime Isayama, the Mangaka of Attack on Titan!

Hajime Isayama is a Japanese manga artist and the creator of Attack on Titan, one of the best-selling manga series of all time with more than 96 million copies sold in September 2019. His first manga series is Attack on Titan, which is still ongoing.

There are some facts about Hajime Isayama that you probably didn’t know. So, what are the exciting facts about the mangaka of Attack on Titan? Without further ado, let’s jump into it!

1. Got His Inspiration for Titans from Seeing A Drunk

The first fact about Hajime Isayama is that the source of his inspiration for Titans. He got the idea from dealing with a drunken customer at the internet cafe he used to work at. Titans have terrifying looks, which he experienced from dealing with said customer. He felt the fear of someone with a total lack of communication. 

He realized that the fear was stronger since they look human but couldn’t feel that they were human beings.

This is probably the reason why some of the Mindless Titans behave erratically like drunk people.

2. His Favorite Characters Are Jean, Reiner, and Historia

In mid-2012 when the Female Titan arc was released, Isayama revealed in an interview that Jean Kirschtein is his favorite character. Then between 2017 to 2019, during the Marley to War for Paradis arc, Isayama also mentioned that Reiner Braun is one of his favorite characters.

He also stated later on that Historia Reiss is one of the characters he loves the most in the Attack on Titan series.

That’s probably why Reiner is still alive to this day, despite the many times he was put in dangerous situations.

3. A Huge Fan of an Idol Group!

Isayama turns out to be a huge fan of a Japanese idol group called Momoiro Clover Z. This idol group is hugely popular among Japanese due to their cheerful songs. Isayama often listens to Momoiro Clover Z’s songs when he’s working on his manga.

4. Unintentionally Created Levi Ackerman 

Levi Ackerman is one of the most powerful characters in the Attack on Titan series. Aside from his physical prowess, he also has cool looks. Levi instantly became one of the fan-favorites.

There’s a unique trivia regarding the creation of Levi. Isayama unintentionally created Levi when he was scribbling, and he knew there’s something about the character. After that, Isayama decided to save the character, and combine him with some of Rorschach’s (Watchmen) characteristics, and Levi was born.

5. Used to Doodles Humans vs. Giants When He Was in Kindergarten

Isayama started to draw humans fighting giants back when he was a little kid. Attack on Titan is basically the realization of his childhood fantasies.
