One of the most important things to do in order to master Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) is to master the maps in the game. Like many other FPS games, players must learn every little aspect of the maps in the game, and there are a lot of CSGO maps in this game to learn.
In total, there are 18 maps in CSGO that are split into seven maps for Active Duty Map Pool category, six maps for Reserve Map Pool category and five maps for Hostage Rescue Maps category. For newbies, it’s going to be very tough to learn all the maps at once, therefore there are only five essential maps that need to be mastered.
After all, like many other FPS games as well, having a lot of maps in the game doesn’t mean the players must be able to master each of them. In fact, even professionals don’t don’t seem to master every map in CSGO and only master the most played maps.
Those particular maps are perfect for your training ground to master CSGO. Here are five of those CSGO maps you should master:
1. Overpass
Overpass is one of the most recommended CSGO maps and very exciting to learn for beginners. Similar to the Inferno map, the Counter Terrorist team will have better map control during the early rounds. However, the moment the Terrorist team manages to find their way to the Bombsite, they’ll pretty much win the game by that point.
2. Mirage
Mirage is a CSGO map that falls under Active Duty Map Pool category. CSGO players across the globe really love playing in this map, which consists of three main paths that become the perfect training ground for beginners.
Unlike the other maps, Mirage is pretty easy to learn as you only need to play on the map a couple of times to figure out the characteristics. By then, you’ll be able to form a strategy to beat the opponent’s team
3. Cache
Cache is also one of the best CSGO maps for beginners with three simple paths and one main connector path. It has simple design and gives enough time management for beginners to learn about the game.
This map is also an easy CSGO offline map to learn but equally challenging. There are a lot of open areas that leave you vulnerable, therefore you’ll need to form the right strategy when playing on this map.

4. Inferno
Inferno falls under Active Duty Map Pool category and is a classic map with a balanced risk-and-reward system based on each team’s map control. In this CSGO map, the key to win the game is proper communication among the team members.
5. Dust II
Professional teams prefer playing on the Dust II map during CSGO tournaments, which means newcomers must also play this highly popular map.
The map has three entry points to the Bombsite with three paths inside. The balance of the map design makes any team struggling to reap advantages early in the game. Although it’s not the easiest map to learn like the rest of the maps on this list, Dust II still has the potential for newcomers to learn.
Instead of aimlessly playing on various maps randomly, it’s best for newcomers to focus on these aforementioned five CSGO maps. In addition to being generally easy to comprehend, these maps are also frequently used among the CSGO players, even the professional ones.
