Just like most TV shows or movies, the villains in anime are often overlooked by most viewers. Maybe it's because some of the villains aren't well-crafted, or don't have the ability to actually cause catastrophic destruction to make them the strongest anime villains.

However, there are some powerful anime characters who are formidable villains who not only dominate every scene but also manage to steal the attention. Who are the strongest anime villains of all time? This list is dedicated to these villains.

1. Makoto Shishio from Rurouni Kenshin

The strongest villain from Rurouni Kenshin or Samurai X is a massacre agent who replaces Kenshin Himura in becoming Hitokiri Ishin Shishi to launch the Meiji revolution. This samurai can burn many of his enemies with his serrated swords as well as oil and gunpowder makes the Meiji Knights recruit him because of Shishio's desire to rule.

After the victory of the supporters of Emperor Meiji, Shishio was attacked by his comrades and his body was burned on the battlefield. Left alone by his comrades who betrayed him, the snowfall saved Shishio's life by extinguishing the fire that had consumed his body. Since then he has a grudge against the Meiji government and tries to overthrow it by forming an organization containing great rebels called Juppongatana.

Shishio was so strong, no one could beat him in a fight even though he was ganged up by 4 of the greatest characters in this series at once. Saito, Sanosuke, Aoshi and Kenshin were easily defeated by Shishio. The only reason why he was defeated was because he battled them for too long and his burn scars killed him.

2. Madara Uchiha from Naruto Shippuden

Imagine a character so strong that the creator even can’t kill. That is Madara Uchiha. This character can beat the most powerful shinobi of the entire Naruto Shippuden alone without breaking a sweat.

Madara grew up in an era where war and fighting were his daily life experiences. Unlike future generations of shinobi, this era was full of bloodshed and tragedy. He eventually lost all his brothers but he somehow managed to befriend Hashirama Senju, the son of the enemy clan’s leader. Both Madara and Hashirama are known as one of the founders of Konoha Village. Both worked extensively to establish peace and harmony in the village, preventing children from respective clans from experiencing the tragedy they had to go through before.

However, Madara and Hashirama engaged in a legendary battle that shaped the entire story of Naruto. Even though Madara faced defeat at the hands of Hashirama, he still managed to tear a piece of flesh from Hashirama’s body, allowing him to finally awaken his Rinnegan.

Before dying, he handed that power over to Nagato Uzumaki, waiting for him to return to reclaim everything he wanted. This character revives himself after death and is almost impossible to beat.

3. All for One from My Hero Academia 

In a world where most characters don't last long, All for One is a character who seems to have lived for more than a century. He's the enemy of One for All users, and he's also a character who forces tough heroes like All Might to retire.

The battle takes place approximately five years before My Hero Academia begins, with All Might being mortally wounded. Needless to say, All Might didn't hold back in fighting either. All for One suffered so many injuries that his entire face was crushed.

Despite all that, All for One is still as strong as ever. Not only is he now in charge of the League of Villains, but he also ended All Might's career. Currently, he is still imprisoned in the Tartarus prison. However, All for One is still a force to be reckoned with and one of the strongest anime villains.

4. Acnologia from Fairy Tail

Acnologia was once a human. Although not the main antagonist of Fairy Tail, Acnologia turns into a dragon after excessive use of Dragon Slaying Magic. Acnologia's power is feared by everyone, even the Dark Wizard Zeref himself. Although most people might think that Zeref is the strongest character in Fairy Tail, Acnologia is much tougher.

Unlike other dragons or dragon-slayer humans, Acnologia doesn't need any special attributes to be tough. For example, Natsu Dragneel needs to eat fire first to increase his strength. However, Acnologia has the ability to consume any type of magic.

Dragon King is a title given only to one who can stand above every other creature, who can also rule and subdue them. Acnologia is the owner of this title and for good reasons. Not only did he wipe out a large part of the dragon population alone, but he also became the reason behind their extinction. But, like every other antagonist, Acnologia does it for a reason: revenge.

Acnologia seeks revenge for the creature that killed his family. Even though there are good dragons and evil dragons, Acnologia is so blinded by hatred that he vows to wipe out the entire dragon race.

In the end, Lucy Heartfilia uses the combined power of all the citizens of Ishgaria and forms a Fairy Circle to trap the dragon, while Natsu deals the final blow in the space-time gap against Acnologia. Acnologia definitely deserves to be included in the list of the strongest anime villains of all time.

5. Father from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

'Father' is the name used by this Homunculi, although in reality, this character has no name. In fact, he was a Homunculus created from Van Hohenheim's blood, and was referred to as "The Dwarf in a Flask." This evil character appears 400 years before the events of Fullmetal Alchemist.

As an immortal, Father gained the status of invincibility after the sacrifice of every human in the Xerxes Kingdom. In addition, Father also shared a portion of his power with Van Hohenheim to repay him for the blood he gave. He also inherited the knowledge of the Eyes, allowing him to have knowledge of almost anything. In search of perfection, Father decides to separate all his worldly desires, forming a group of Homunculi who represent the Seven Deadly Sins.

Because Father kept failing to create the perfect Philosopher's Stone, he kept trying again and again at the cost of countless people's lives, and he almost succeeded. The Elric brothers, the military, and Van Hohenheim worked together to stop him from attaining God-like status. 

6. Sosuke Aizen from Bleach

The main villain of Bleach, Sosuke Aizen, is probably one of the strongest anime villains. Where most villains excel in fighting strength alone, Aizen is an expert not only in combat. Not only can he injure anyone he meets, but he also has a charismatic personality to charm or manipulate others.

Sosuke Aizen is the former captain of Soul Society's 5th Division, and one of the division's most idolized and respected captains. He is also respected by his allies from other divisions. However, behind this kind and gentle demeanor lies an evil that even Hollows cannot compare to.

After his betrayal, he leaves Soul Society with the intention of attacking the Spirit King Palace and will claim it as his own. The evil Aizen believes that he is more suited to the role. However, in order for him to achieve that, Aizen needs an element that allows him to traverse the Palace. This element is known as Oken and can only be created at the expense of places with excessive spiritual activity. Ichigo's Karakura Town is also considered one of those places.

Needless to say, after Aizen ventured into Las Noches and became its ruler, he went to war against Soul Society, only to be stopped by Ichigo Kurosaki himself. Furthermore, Kisuke Urahara also contributed to sealing him in the depths of Soul Society. A troublesome process against the elusive Aizen.
