7 Norse Mythological Weapons That can Compete Kratos' Blade of Chaos
The Blade of Chaos is indeed Kratos' deadly weapon, but what about when dealing with the following Nordic mythological weapons?
Games | 11 December
Blade of Chaos is Kratos’ mainstay in the God of War series. This weapon is in the form of two large twin blades created by the god of war Ares. This weapon is also equipped with a chain that is able to expand the attack range once the user uses it in battle. This weapon can provide a brutal attack regardless of the people around him.
Now in God of War: Ragnarok, Kratos will face the gods from Norse mythology. Just like Kratos, they also have a number of weapons that are no less deadly. What are the Nordic mythological weapons that can rival the Blade of Chaos? Let's look at the following list.
1. Mjolnir
Mjolnir is a weapon belonging to the god of thunder Thor in Norse mythology. This weapon has a hammer-like shape that has two sides. Not only used as a weapon for melee attacks, Mjolnir can also produce thunder and lightning attacks. At the end of God of War, Mjolnir was seen and seemed to be the weapon that Thor would use against Kratos in the God of War: Ragnarok.
2. Gungnir
Next is Gungnir which is Odin’s weapon, the king of the Aesir gods. This weapon is shaped like a spear that has a pointed tip. In Norse mythology, Gungnir is told as Odin's main weapon to kill his opponent and expand his power. The shape of Gungnir itself can be seen in the picture on the wall, showing Thor holding Gungnir which has a golden tip.
3. Laevateinn
In Norse mythology, Laevateinn is a sword created by Loki to defeat Viðofnir, a mythological bird that lives on top of Yggdrasil. This sword is indeed a distinctive and powerful sword used by Loki in Norse mythology.
4. Hofund
If you have followed the Thor film released by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you must be familiar with a sword called Hofund. This sword is owned by a gatekeeper named Heimdall. A god who can see, hear, and guard the entire Aesir universe. In the film version, Hofund can be used to open a portal home for Thor. In addition, Hofund is also one of the best weapons in the history of Norse mythology at the time of Ragnarok.

5. Gram
In Norse mythology, Gram is a sword used by Sigurd or Hercules. Given by Odin, this weapon is used by Sigurd to kill the dragon Fafnir. In his story, Sigurd managed to kill Fafnir with just one slash on the dragon's belly and took the cursed treasure and his heart. In God of War, Sigurd's figure has not been seen, but Kratos is also told to free the dragon Fafnir. So the possibility of Sigurd and his Gram weapon will be seen in God of War: Ragnarok.
6. Freyr's Sword
Freya is one of the most important characters in God of War, which was released in 2018. The character known as the "Witch of the wood" is none other than the Goddess of Norse mythology who helps Kratos and Atreus on their journey. Interestingly, Freya also has her flagship weapon which is a sword. This unknown weapon is rarely used by Freya in close combat, but this weapon has a magic ability that allows her to fly.
7. Surtr's Sword
Lastly, Surtr's Sword would likely be the most powerful weapon in the Nine Realms. Its power is so great that it makes Mimir call it a legendary weapon capable of destroying Aesir with a single attack. But before that happened, Surtr was defeated by Thor and his weapon was handed over to Odin. In God of War, Surtr's Sword was shown to have a giant shape and red color. Surtr's Sword is also a trial mode for Kratos and Atreus to finish off a number of enemies within the allotted time.
