Some of the demons in Demon Slayer are heartless like Muzan, but there are also several demons who, after being a nuisance, turn out that their life stories are quite sad.

Who are these demons? Here’s the list of the demons in Demon Slayer whose death is sad!

(Warning: This article might contain spoilers!)

1. Susamaru

The first saddest death is Susamaru. What makes her death so sad was not because she presented a flashback or anything, but she died in an extraordinarily brutal death, after mentioning a certain name.

Worse, Susamaru's childish voice was then still heard even though her body was obliterated. Although almost completely wiped off, it seems that this demon died after being burned by the sun. In addition, Tanjiro realized that Muzan was only using Susamaru. Susamaru wasn't even really one of the 12 Kizuki.

2. The Hand Demon

The Hand Demon was annoying at first. He was the one who killed Makomo and Sabito, the two spirits who helped Tanjiro train, and his death should satisfy us.

On the contrary, his death was so sad. The demon’s request for his hand to be held by Tanjiro's hand was very touching.

3. The Spider Demon (Mother)

The Spider Demon (Mother) had ruthlessly crushed Tanjiro's hopes. Previously, Tanjiro and Inosuke were able to secure the demon slayers controlled by the demon, but she easily broke the necks of the slayers.

But moments before Tanjiro's beheading, it was revealed that the mother was a suffering figure. Despite her role as a mother, she was often humiliated and abused by other members of the spider family. She even decided to just accept her death. Sensing that, Tanjiro decides to execute his mother with the gentlest technique of Water Breathing.

4. Kyogai

With his drumming skills, Kyogai could be a tough challenge for Tanjiro. But seeing Tanjiro appreciated his work, and also hearing Tanjiro acknowledge the power of his Blood Demon Art, Kyogai died in tears. Maybe Tanjiro couldn’t forgive Kyogai, but at least he could still comfort this demon.

5. Gyutaro

Gyutaro and Daki might feel dangerous and annoying at first. They also died in an insulting way, namely insulting each other. But then, we saw flashbacks of Gyutaro and Daki's sad lives. Gyutaro briefly tried to shove Daki away, but Daki followed his brother to hell.

Seeing that, Gyutaro was able to ask Daki not to follow him. It seems that Daki, who became a demon at the age of 13, was still considered innocent and could go to heaven. So it's quite sad to see Daki decide to follow Gyutaro anyway.

6. Rui

Rui managed to make Nezuko and Tanjiro bleed. Considering that he had routinely abused his family and also killed countless humans, Rui seemed unforgivable.

Later, it was revealed that Rui was once a sickly child, who turned into a demon. Rui remembered that his parents tried to kill him, but actually, his father and mother intended to commit suicide if they managed to kill their son who became a demon.

Rui had time to meet the spirits of his father and mother after death. Sadly, it seemed that his parents are willing to accompany their child to burn in hell.

7. Akaza

Akaza was once the most hated villain by fans for killing Kyojuro Rengoku, who was the fan’s favorite. Then, in the battle against Giyu and Tanjiro, his incredibly tragic past is revealed. Akaza wanted to continue to grow strong, but the person who motivated him to strengthen himself (his teacher and his future wife) had died a long time ago.

Akaza was a good person when he was still a human. Once he fully remembered his past, Akaza, who almost like Muzan (a demon who can continue to live even after being beheaded) turned to help to kill himself.

8. Kokushibo

For hundreds of years, Kokushibo was Muzan's strongest subordinate. He could even kill two top demon slayers in his final battle. But when he died, Kokushibo realized that everything he did in his life was in vain.

What makes it even sadder? Rui's parents, Akaza's teacher and future wife, still wanted to accompany their demons to burn in hell. You can see their projections appearing in Rui and Akaza's minds before the vision fades away. Meanwhile, no one was present for Kokushibo at the end of his life. He died alone.
