Kekkei genkai in Naruto lore is a secret jutsu that is only inherited to certain ninja clans in order the technique cannot b copied by others. Aside from dojutsu, a few kinds of kekkei genkai are the combination of 2 of 5 chakra elements; creating a new and different element!

What will happen if a ninja can master a certain chakra element and combine it? For example; combining Fire with Water Element or Earth with Electricity Element. Let’s take a look at what kekkei genkai that born from those combinations

1. Boil Element (Water + Fire)

By combining the heat from the Fire Element and the liquid nature of Water Element, the users of this kekkei genkai can shoot steam on enemies.

Han receives this technique when he serves as a Jinchuuriki for Five-Tailed Beast and using it to strengthen taijutsu. While Mei Terumi, The Fifth Mizukage, can add corrosive liquid into her attack until the steam she produced can melt every solid object upon touch easily even crushing Susano’o’s defense.

• Users: Futsu, Han, Kokuo, & Mei Terumi.

2. Lava Element (Fire + Earth)

The users of this kekkei genkai able to produce volcanic materials like lava or rubber (that undergoing a vulcanization process to the point it’s so strong and can contain Electricity Attacks) by combining Fire and Earth Element.

There are different kinds of form depends on ability and usage. Mei, for example, able to shoot acid mud. Then Kurotsuchi’s Lava Element is consists of volcanic dust and quicklime or Son Goku with his lava rocks.

• Users: Dodai, Etoro Konjiki, Karyu, Kurotsuchi, Kyusuke, Mei Terumi, Momoshiki Otsutsuki, Roshi, & Son Goku.

3. Scorch Element (Fire + Wind)

Adding the power of the Wind Element to the Fire Element creates Scorch Element kekkei genkai, hence the name, it can scorch the enemy until every liquid inside the body disperse into dust.

• User: Pakura.

4. Ice Element (Wind + Water)

Yuki clan from Land of Water kekkei genkai. With this technique, the Yuki clan able to create and manipulate ice, including making the air around them so cold to the point snow falling from above. This man-made ice also powerful enough, even Sasuke’s fire technique cannot melt Haku’s ice.

• Users: Haku, Hakuhyo, Kahyo, Raihyo, & Momoshiki Otsutsuki (novel only).

5. Magnet Element (Wind + Earth)

The ability to control magnet and iron substances is acquired by combining Wind and Earth Element or by becoming One-Tailed Beast Jinchuuriki.

A few Sunagakure ninjas who have this kekkei genkai choose to mix sand with iron sand to increase their defense.

• Users: Gaara, Kajura, The Third Kazekage, Rasa, Shinki, Shukaku, & Toroi.

6. Explosion Element (Earth + Electricity)

Generally, this is owned by Iwagakure ninjas and their Explosion Corps, the Explosion Element is created by combining the Earth and Electricity Elements that give them the ability to explode chakra as their offensive.

Deidara’s clay is created by Earth Element and filled with Explosive Element chakra, then it can be used as a time bomb or as a projectile.

• Users: Gari, & Deidara.

7. Storm Element (Water + Electricity)

When successfully mastering and combining Water & Electricity Element, a ninja will able to learn Storm Element. The jutsu unleashed via this element generally a laser shot, manipulating electricity flow to the point it can burst like water.

People who master this kekkei genkai are Kumogakure ninjas.

• Users: Darui, & Madara Uchiha.

8. Wood Element (Water + Earth)

The last one is the rarest kekkei genkai that so far, only known by the Senju clan naturally, and it’s none other than the Wood Element.

It’s the manifestation of life, the Wood Element users can grow a tree up to skyscraper tall or making a forest in seconds wherever they stand.

But, it is revealed that Wood Element is not the only one kekkei genkai combination of Water and Earth Element. In Akatsuki Hiden, Hidan and Kakuzu meet someone with Mud Element. Due to the rarity of this jutsu, Hidan quips that this kekkei genkai is a hoax made by people.

• Users: Ashura Otsutsuki, Danzo Shimura, Hashirama Senju, Madara Uchiha, Momoshiki Otsutsuki (novel only), Obito Uchiha, Orochimaru, Ten-Tailed Beast, Yamato, & Zetsu.

So that’s the list of kekkei genkai that exist in Naruto. There are also three chakra combinations called kekkei tota. Maybe we will talk about it next time.
