Resident Evil (RE) Village is the latest entry on the series, starring the returning Ethan Winters from Resident Evil VII as the protagonist with Chris Redfield making a return to the series. However, the early concept of the game showed that Chris wasn’t supposed to be the only returning character, as Ada Wong was also intended to make her appearance in RE Village as well!

This is first shown in RE Village’s digital art book which came out along with the release of the game, titled “The Tragedy of Ethan Winters.” The book contains plenty of interesting concept art regarding the characters and creatures in the game, including the fan-favorite enigma Ada Wong who first appeared in Resident Evil 2 as a woman of unknown origin and mission. Since her inception, she appeared in many other Resident Evil games (RE 4 and 6) as well as the animation movies (RE Degenerate and RE Damnation).

Ada Wong’s latest design looks nothing like her old models—she no longer wears her iconic red Chinese dress and instead wears a rogue-type set of clothes complete with a Plague Doctor mask and a crossbow.

According to the game’s development team, they intended to include Ada Wong in RE Village as shown in the digital art book with her role being a mysterious masked figure who saves Ethan when he first encounters the Four Lords while investigating the village on her own. Unfortunately, she didn’t end up in the final version of the game due to the potential risk of her story not matching with the rest of the game’s story.

Funnily enough, RE Village takes some inspiration from RE 4, ranging from the game’s setting being in a remote village in Europe, Lady Dimitrescu’s castle that looks like Salazar’s castle (and Spencer’s mansion from RE 1) to The Duke who replaces The Merchant’s role in RE 4 (The Duke even mentions RE 4’s Merchant as his old friend!). Yet somehow, Ada Wong didn’t make it to the final product.
