Alter Ego Ares' journey in the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2025 has been quite a bumpy one. Rosemary and her teammates began their journey by playing in the PMGC 2025 Group Stage - Group Green. In fact, Alter Ego Ares performed quite well at the start of the Group Stage. However, on the final day, or day three of the Group Stage, Alter Ego Ares' performance suddenly declined.
As a result, their chance to secure a top-three finish as Group Green representatives was instantly lost. Alter Ego Ares had to be brave and return to the Last Chance round to secure a ticket to the PMGC 2025 Grand Finals. What happened to Alter Ego Ares that prevented them from advancing to the Grand Finals? Team coach Noval Adrian "HzlnutS" Putra spoke with the players about the situation.
Hzlnuts and the Players Explain Why Alter Ego Failed in the PMGC 2025 Group Stage
For your information, Alter Ego Ares got off to a strong start in the PMGC 2025 Group Stage. For the first two days, Rosemary and her teammates consistently placed in the top 3. However, the intense competition on the third day caused Alter Ego Ares to slowly slip. Rosemary and her teammates dropped drastically, ultimately finishing in eighth place, forcing them to play in the Last Chance.
The team's coach, Hzlnuts, stated that the reason Alter Ego Ares' performance declined on the third day was because they lost "against themselves" in the match. "Perhaps I saw the players trying to maintain their mental consistency. But we really needed momentum at that point in the Group Stage on the third day. We tried to gain momentum, we tried to turn the situation around," said Hzlnuts.
"However, in the end, we failed and lost to ourselves on the third day," he said. Meanwhile, ALVA, a player, stated that Hzlnuts' statement was correct, as they felt like they "lost their identity" during the third day of the match. "It's more or less the same as Hzlnuts said. As players, we felt like we lost our identity on the third day of the Group Stage," ALVA said.
"Also, there was a lack of mutual encouragement on the third day, so we didn't play as we normally would," ALVA added. Hzlnuts then stated that the team's preparation for the Last Chance round involved not only evaluating the players but also the coaching staff. As a coach, he stated that many things were done, including analyzing the opponent's playing style and strengthening their mentality. "In Last Chance, of course, it's not just the players who are improving. We, the coaching staff, are also improving by analyzing all the teams that entered Last Chance from Group Green and Group Red. We also read their playing characteristics, and besides dropping spots, clashes, and so on, we have to be able to capitalize on those moments. We definitely have the Aces helping us to build the players' mentality in Last Chance," explained Hzlnuts.
"So, the most important thing is that before we beat another team, we have to beat ourselves. That's the mentality, and we don't want that mistake to be repeated in Last Chance," he said. Regarding the difficulty level of playing in Last Chance and in the Group Stage, Hzlnuts said there is no specific difference. He believes all teams have an equal chance of reaching the Grand Finals.
However, it comes down to how they strengthen their internal team to achieve the desired results. "All teams here actually have the same chance of qualifying for the Grand Finals. It's just about who has the mentality to reach peak performance," said Hzlnuts. "It's said to be more difficult, but both are actually difficult. But because we controlled ourselves, we were able to overcome ourselves, and ultimately, we secured our place in the Grand Finals. It's the same," he concluded.
