Not from MPL Indonesia, this time there's surprising news from MPL Malaysia. One of the top MPL MY teams, TODAK, announced their roster for the upcoming MPL MY Season 16. Previously, poor results last season prevented TODAK from qualifying for the playoffs and from qualifying for MSC 2025.
During the MPL MY Season 16 preseason, TODAK was one of the teams that was quite active in the transfer market. Slowly, players and coaches left the team, and for the new MPL MY Season 16 season, TODAK has found replacements. In fact, this could be said to be a new hope for TODAK.
Several new faces have appeared on TODAK's new roster. Several players from Malaysia and Indonesia are ready to strengthen TODAK in MPL MY Season 16. However, the surprising announcement was the arrival of skilled coach Nafari, who has joined TODAK along with his teammates DevKoch and L1NK.
It certainly came as a surprise that Alter Ego, a renowned Indonesian esports team, loaned Nafari to TODAK along with DevKoch, along with two other new players: DreamS as Roamer and Fawndeer as EXP Laner. What was Nafari's reason for joining TODAK? Read the full review here.
"Mission to be The Champion" Is Why Nafari Joined TODAK
The TODAK roster announcement for MPL MY S16 was made on Friday, August 8, 2025, Malaysian time. Several media partners were present to cover the launch of the TODAK MPL MY S16 roster, which was quite promising. As previously mentioned, several players and coaches from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines were included.
Following the launch and introduction of the TODAK MPL MY S16 roster, Nafari spoke to the media about the process of joining TODAK and why he chose TODAK as his team for the new competitive season. Before Nafari joined TODAK, the coach even explained that several other coaches were being selected.
However, TODAK ultimately chose Nafari, and the two were destined to compete in the upcoming MPL MY Season 16.
"Why did I choose TODAK? Initially, there were trials, and before I joined TODAK, there were six trial coaches. If I'm not mistaken, there were four from the Philippines and two from Indonesia," said Nafari. "But TODAK chose me, so that's it. I also want to choose TODAK," he said.
Discussing the strengths of MPL MY Season 16, Nafari admitted he didn't know what they would be like because TODAK hadn't yet scrimmed or practiced with the other MPL MY Season 16 teams. Nafari mentioned that even when he was still managing Alter Ego, they hadn't scrimmed with the MPL MY teams.
"As for that, since we haven't had any scrims with Malaysian teams, I can't say much. Even when we were at Alter Ego, we rarely scrimmed with Malaysian teams," Nafari explained. "Looking at their games, I remember watching SRG OG, but when it comes to SRG OG, they're a strong team," he emphasized.
Finally, Nafari's reason for joining TODAK was also driven by his desire to prove that he can lead TODAK.
"I'm here to fight to prove that I can lead TODAK to the championship, or at least my realistic goal of finishing in the top 2," he concluded.
It's interesting to see what Nafari's journey will be like with the rest of the Alter Ego squad and TODAK in MPL MY Season 16. Could Nafari's goal of bringing TODAK back to the pinnacle of glory in MPL MY Season 16 be realized? We'll just have to wait and see.
