Match 2 of the MPL ID Season 6 on Saturday (5/9) featured a fierce battle between Udil and Antimage who are rivals even before this tournament. With a Best of Three (Bo3) format, Alter Ego managed to topple Onic Esports, the leading team in the tournament, with a series of spectacular plays.
While Alter Ego lost Game 1, they didn’t show any sign of giving up and pulled off an amazing comeback in Game 2. Vale, the only Mage who had never stepped in an MPL ID match, was finally played by Udil as a Support. Udil played a significant role by dishing out burst-damage to Onic Esports’ players, especially when the game reaches the 15-minute mark.
Another dazzling performance also displayed by Ahmad with his Esmeralda, Alter Ego beats Onic Esports in Game 2. It’s all square, 1-1.
In the decisive Game 3, Alter Ego played out a clever draft pick by using Pharsa and Chang’e in one game to provide enormous burst-damage to the Onic Esports’ front laners, Antimage’ Uranus and Rasy’s Khufra.
Not to mention their decision to pick Yu Zhong for Ahmad had proven to be able to grab Onic Esports’ attention while also giving Udil and PAI the chance to attack freely with their ranged-skills to poke the opposing team. Comeback! Game 3 secured by Alter Ego.
Seeing the joy in Alter Ego’s eyes, KB then asked them what happened during the match. Whether they treated the game as a personal one or did they have grudges that drive them. Nasi Uduk, Alter Ego’s coach, said, "There were no grudges, the kids are mature enough. However, winning this match feels as if we’re winning the trophy. Since we managed to stop Onic’s unbeaten run. That’s what makes us so happy, we show other teams that we can stop them".
Not just with Alter Ego, KB also asked Mars, Onic Esports’ coach. KB then asked regarding Sanz who picked Execute while playing Claude. Mars admitted that this strategy worked well in the previous scrim, but as it turned out, it was not the case against Alter Ego.
"Yesterday, we had some games in scrims, and Sanz came up with the idea of using Execute, and, at that time, it worked quite well. Yet unfortunately, it didn’t work in the real match."
With Onic Esports’ defeat, it proves that the other teams still have a good chance of overthrowing the Hedgehog, although they were quite dominant in this season.
