AMD has announced a series of new commercial processors in the Ryzen PRO series built on a combination of the latest architectures: Zen 4 for CPU, RDNA 3 for GPU, and XDNA for NPU. This lineup is aimed at laptops (Ryzen PRO 8040) and desktops (Ryzen PRO 8000), offering a total of 16 processors.
This processor uses AMD Pro technology and is manufactured with a 4nm manufacturing process, delivering significant improvements in performance, power consumption and artificial intelligence capabilities. Support for the latest WiFi 7 standards and Bluetooth 5.4 is also included for better connectivity.
The Ryzen PRO 8040 series of laptops is designed to meet the needs of two different markets. The HS series is aimed at content creators and mobile workstation users, offering powerful processors like the Ryzen 9 PRO 8945HS with 8 cores, 16 threads, and clock speeds of 4.0-5.2GHz. While capable of handling demanding tasks, the HS series processors have a higher power consumption rating, ranging from 35W to 54W.
For those who prioritize portability, the U series offers a more energy efficient option. Processors like the Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U and Ryzen 5 PRO 8640U have similar core counts and clock speeds to the HS series, but with lower power consumption ratings, namely 15W to 28W. One of the unique offerings in the U series is the Ryzen 5 PRO 8540U, which does not come with an NPU unit.
Meanwhile, the desktop-focused Ryzen PRO 8000 series comes in two variants: G and GE. Both offer Ryzen 7, 5, and 3 processors. Users who value raw performance can opt for the G series, which offers processors like the Ryzen 7 PRO 8700G with 8 cores, 16 threads, and clock speeds of 4.2-5.1GHz. However, the G series has a higher power consumption rating, namely 45W to 65W.
For those looking for a balance between performance and efficiency, the GE series offers an attractive option. Processors like the Ryzen 5 PRO 8600GE have a similar core count and clock speed to the G series, but with a lower power consumption rating of 35W.
Unfortunately, AMD has not revealed the price of its newest Ryzen Pro processor. So, let's just wait for further information that AMD will share later.
