Synopsis of the Anime
Edens Zero Season 1 is a Netflix original anime released on August 25, 2021. The anime, which is an adaptation of a manga by Hiro Mashima, was animated by J.C. Studio Staff. Edens Zero tells the story of Shiki, an orphan who has spent many years of his life in the amusement park world known as Grandell. He is brought to Grandell by the Demon Lord, who plays his grandfather after discovering Shiki during his explorations.
The robots that inhabit Grandell are the only Shiki's friends. Then Shiki becomes shocked when he sees the first humans in his life, a B-Cuber named Rebecca and her cat named Happy, visiting Grandell. After all the robots in Grandell force Shiki to leave Grandell's planet before their batteries die, Shiki joins Rebecca and Happy on their adventure.
They decide to go on an adventure to find the fairy tale cosmos goddess, Mother. Throughout his adventures, Shiki inherits his grandfather's Gravity Ether Gear, which grants him powers related to gravity, and an interstellar warship as well as Edens Zero.

Carrying the Theme of Friendship as in Hiro Mashima's Previous Works
One of the main elements of Edens Zero Season 1 is that Shiki wants to make as many friends as possible. The theme of friendship is something that Hiro Mashima focuses on in the other series he has implemented, especially in Fairy Tail. There must be some very influential sayings to try to build the emotions of the audience, especially when Shiki asks "What is a friend" in the first episode.
However, the theme of friendship becomes a much more interesting element which develops as the story progresses. There are definitely emotional moments, but not too much to force the viewer to feel certain things. Hiro Mashima has done a great job at making Shiki realize the difference between enemy and friend. This is what makes the development of the story to focus on other aspects of the plot.
The success of the storytelling in Edens Zero season 1 is indeed extraordinary. In this anime there is no confusing moment. This anime uses a very interesting process to explain the storyline and manages to make viewers remember it for some reason at least once in every episode.
It's clear that the series wants viewers to enjoy the story without having to worry about getting confused about capturing so much information. The animation also manages to show how interesting this anime is in terms of character design and story plot development. There is never a single dull moment when you watch this anime.
Hiro Mashima’s Signature Character
As previously mentioned, Edens Zero season 1 has some common elements with Fairy Tail. Some of the characters in Edens Zero are just reimagined versions of the Fairy Tail counterpart. However, Edens Zero does a great job of distinguishing itself from Hiro Mashima's previous works.
The plot changes in Mashima's latest series develop much faster, especially as the journey of Shiki, Rebecca, and Happy continues. The world they live in turns out to be full of secrets and the emergence of dangers they have never faced before. Rebecca and Happy are B-Cubers, a play on social media influencers and real-life YouTubers that make this story even more interesting.
Seeing this, it's not surprising that viewers think they are shallow-minded or just doing things for fame. However, Rebecca and Happy have developed more than just wanting viewers or followers. Having these interesting characters and a different world makes Edens Zero stand out more than just a direct copy of Hiro Mashima's previous work.
In the end, Edens Zero season 1 managed to build on some elements of the story while also incorporating popular elements from Hiro Mashima's previous works. The combination creates a new, exciting story while still enjoying the nostalgia of some elements of Hiro Mashima's signature work that are re-enacted.
