If you moved into a big city for a job, this time of year is probably the hardest time when you feel homesick. 1. Barakamon

Barakamon tells the story of Handa Seishu, a young calligrapher who's  forced by his father to go to a remote village as punishment for his unprofessional behavior. In the village, Handa meets a wide array of different, colorful characters and eventually rediscovers his passion for calligraphy. Barakamon is an anime that is entertaining, inspiring, and has a strong moral message.

2. Non Non Biyori

Non Non Biyori follows the lives of four children in rural Japan, far from the big cities. This anime shows how quiet and peaceful their lives are in the countryside, while also focusing on the friendship that blossoms between them. Non Non Biyori is an anime that is cute, relaxing, and perfect for stress-relief viewing.

3. Dagashi Kashi

Next, we have Dagashi Kashi. This anime tells the story of Shikada Kokonotsu and his father who owns a candy shop. The father plans to pass his shop on to his son. However, his son refuses and prefers to become a mangaka.

One day, a girl named Shidare Hotaru comes to visit and invites Kokonotsu's father to join her family's company.

However, Kokonotsu's father will only accept the offer if she can convince Kokonotsu to take over the business. Since then, Hotaru regularly comes to the shop to convince Kokonotsu to take over her father's shop.

4. Gin no Saji

Gin no Saji – or Silver Spoon – tells the story of Hachiken Yuugo, a student who enters an agricultural high school located in rural Japan. Hachiken learns various things about agriculture, including how to cultivate farms, and care for livestock. Apart from that, he also learns about life values, such as friendship, hard work, and honesty.

5. Natsume Yuujinchou

Natsume Yuujinchou tells of an orphan named Takashi Natsume, who can see youkai or spirits. He inherits his grandmother's notebook containing the names of youkai, and then meets Nyanko-sensei, a youkai in the form of a cat who becomes his friend. This anime depicts a beautiful and interesting Japanese village life with a backstory full of mystery and fantasy.

6. Aria the Animation

This anime takes place in a fictional city located on planet Mars. Even though the anime takes an extraterrestrial setting, it has a calm and peaceful rural atmosphere.

Aria tells the life of a marine academy student named Akari Mizunashi who chases the dream of becoming an Undine, a kind of tour guide working in the city of Venice.

7. Hanasaku Iroha

This anime tells the story of Ohana Matsumae, a 16-year-old girl who lives in the city of Tokyo. However, Ohana's life takes a sudden turn when she has to stay at her grandmother's inn in a remote village in Japan. Ohana must adapt to a new environment and find meaning in her new life.

8. Yuru Camp

Even though it doesn't really have a rural atmosphere, the natural beauty in Yuru Camp has a charm that makes the audience feel at home. This anime follows a group of girls who camp in stunning places.

9. Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari

At first glance, this anime shares a lot in common with Barakamon. This anime tells the story of a boy who's chasing his dream by coming to Tokyo from his village. One day, he stumbles upon a half-raccoon child in a pot when he comes into the house of his parents who just left the village.

10. Kakushigoto

Kakushigoto: My Dad's Secret Ambition follows Kakushi Goto, a famous mangaka and he's daughter Hime.

Kakushi keeps his job as a mangaka a secret that he hides from his daughter since he believes his daughter doesn't have to bear the consequences of being the daughter of a renowned mangaka. Kakushi always tries hard to hide his job from his daughter and those around them.

This anime does not have a rural atmosphere like other anime on this list, but Kakushigoto has that vibe that makes us miss our hometown.
