As we already talked about Naruto’s paycheck, the Seventh Hokage already saved his paycheck since serving as a ninja. Then, how about other ninjas in his generation? Do they receive the same amount?
Active ninjas during Naruto’s time surely received the same amount of paycheck. The amount of money they received depends on how many official missions that they have successfully done. Surely you are curious about Naruto’s friends, right?
And now, we take one Naruto’s friend who is suitable to be counted, as well for the comparison of wealth between the two. And then the choice falls to Shikamaru. Why him? Shikamaru is one of the many ninjas who are diligent enough to do official missions from Konoha despite his laziness. He’s also one of Naruto’s closest friends as well as Hokage’s assistant.
No need to wait for more, let’s scroll down!
Ninja’s Paycheck According to Missions
According to Naruto: The Secret Scroll of Fighting book, Masashi Kishimoto himself has leaked how much money received by each ninja squad after they’ve done a mission!
The first 1 Ryo (Naruto’s in-world currency) is equal to 10 Yen -- which around Rp155 as of today when the article published. Then we take a look at a ninja’s paycheck according to mission levels:
- D-rank missions: 5.000 - 50.000 Ryo (around Rp7.800.000 - Rp78.000.000);
- C-rank missions: 30.000 - 100.000 Ryo (around Rp46.000.000 - Rp155.000.000);
- B-rank missions: 80.000 - 200.000 Ryo (around Rp124.000.000 - Rp480.000.000);
- A-rank missions: 150.000 - 1.000.000 Ryo (around Rp234.000.000 - Rp1.558.000.000);
- S-rank missions: at least 1.000.000 Ryo (Rp1.558.000.000).
What a fantastic amount, isn’t it? But Kishimoto also not too explicit to say that this is for one ninja only. Remember that in one mission, usually, ninjas moved in a team that consists of four men? Then, there’s a big chance that the money still has to be divided into four -- and we don’t know other variables, like the team leader, received more money or underperformed members whether received a penalty or deduction.
Naruto’s Total Income While Being an Active Ninja
According to Naruto: The Secret Scroll of Fighting official databook by Shueisha, Naruto had done 16 official missions: 7 D-rank missions, 1 C-rank mission, 2 B-rank missions, 6 A-rank missions, and 0 S-rank missions. Sadly, the information doesn’t include all missions in Naruto Shippuden storyline because it only consists of Naruto Part I (and he’s officially out from the village for three years to train under Jiraiya, surely he cannot take missions, right?).
But, if we don’t count filler episodes’ missions and only based on the manga storyline, Naruto at least had done two missions that allegedly S-rank missions: Kazekage Rescue Mission and Akatsuki Hunting Mission (facing Kakuzu).
Then, based on limited information, the total of missions that Naruto had done will be 7 D-rank missions, 1 C-rank mission, 2 B-rank missions, 6 A-rank missions, and 2 S-rank missions.
Putting aside other variables, we can assume how much money that once received by Naruto during his ninja career. Here’s the best scenario:
- Maximum income/ best scenario: not divided into 4, taking the biggest range in each rank.
- (7 x 78.000.000) + (1 x 155.000.000) + (2 x 480.000.000) + (6 x 1.588.000.000) + (2 x 1.588.000.000)
From that calculation, it can be assumed that during his active days, Naruto once had an income for Rp14,3 billion! -- or Rp11,2 billion outside S-rank missions in Shippuden story arc.
Shikamaru’s Total Income While Being an Active Ninja
Now we’re back to Naruto: The Secret Scroll of Fighting, Shikamaru himself had successfully done 34 official missions: 8 D-rank missions, 3 C-rank missions, 9 B-rank missions, 19 A-rank missions, and 0 S-rank missions. This information is similar to Naruto’s case, not updated.
If we are also counting the Shippuden part, Shikamaru once took one S-rank mission, an Akatsuki Hunting Mission (facing Hidan). Then, the total mission that he cleared will be 8 D-rank missions, 3 C-rank missions, 9 B-rank missions, 19 A-rank missions, and 1 S-rank mission.
Choosing the best scenario without including other variables, here’s Shikamaru’s income during his days as an active ninja:
- Maximum income/ best scenario: not divided into four, taking the biggest range on each rank.
- (8 x 60.000.000) + (3 x 120.000.000) + (9 x 240.000.000) + (19 x 1.200.000.000) + (1 x 1.200.000.000)
Based on the calculation above, then during his days as an active ninja, Shikamaru once had revenue for Rp37,1 billion! -- or Rp35,6 billion if you don’t count one S-rank mission on Shippuden.
Which One Is the Richer?
After counting each’s income during their days as an active ninja, we already know which one is richer, right! Shikamaru is inevitably richer than Naruto in terms of wealth. Shikamaru’s income is as same as Naruto’s bur doubled!
The difference is significant enough because Shikamaru keeps taking missions and consistently successful. Meanwhile, Naruto once departed from Konoha for three years to train under Jiraiya - making him cannot taking missions and saving a fortune. But still, Naruto’s wealth lies within his chakra and fighting prowess. Right, fellow ninjas?
So that was the calculation of Shikamaru and Naruto’s paycheck and comparison. Stay tuned only on Dunia Games for more Naruto and Boruto content.
