GTA Roleplay is one of the latest game modes in Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V). Although this isn’t an official feature of the game, this game mode has become the main appeal for GTA Online players. Unlike the normal GTA Online, Rockstar Games gives its multiplayer service for this mode to a third-party server, FiveM.
FiveM becomes the platform to run all the mods online, such as police mods, EMS and mechanics, car mods, etc. So, what is Roleplay? On this occasion, Dunia Games would like to explain this game mode for newer GTA Online players. Without further ado, let’s get into it.
What is GTA V Roleplay?
As the name implies, GTA V Roleplay is a game mode that allows you to role-play. Players can express themselves by playing certain roles and making their own stories. So, in this mode, you will be the director-writer of your own story. You will meet other players, and chat with them, while also playing a role.
Just like in real life, you will need an identity for your character/avatar, including your name, your purpose for moving into the city (the roleplay server), and what kind of life you’re planning to live with your identity. However, unlike GTA Online, in which you can live your life as you please, you’ll need to pay attention to these things.
Tips for New Players in GTA Roleplay
1. Understand and Comply with the Rules of the Server (Town)
There are lots of servers that you can join in GTA V Roleplay. These servers are referred to as “Towns”. And, each town has its own rules that you must comply with before you join them. Be sure you are well aware of the dos and don’ts in these Towns. By complying with these rules, you’re also avoiding getting banned from the server.
2. Don't Do Anything Impulsively
As mentioned above, GTA Roleplay is different from GTA Online, in which you can do whatever you want. It’s not the case with GTA Roleplay as each Town has its own rules. For example, if you have access to weapons, that doesn’t mean that you can shoot at other players. Keep in mind that in GTA Roleplay, you have to stick to your role.
3. Play According to Your Role
Since this mode emphasizes role-playing, players are encouraged to do things based on (and limited to) their respective roles. For example, if you’re role-playing as a police officer, then your main task is to stop thieves, give tickets to those who violate traffic or stop other criminal activities.

4. Don’t Be Shy to Speak Up
Each server in GTA Roleplay requires the players to use a microphone. It’s a means to communicate with other players. Just like in real life, you’ll have to socialize and talk with others. If you’re a new player on a server (Town), you’ll need to actively ask others about how the Town works, how to survive, and other things so that your character will improve.
5. Determine the Backstory of Your Character
To explore your role better, it’s a good idea to determine the backstory of your character. By doing this, you’ll get a better experience as a roleplayer. Don’t forget to add some supporting details for your character. For example, if you’re playing as a female police officer on an Indonesian server, you can make your character have short hair just like female police officers in Indonesia.
How to Play GTA V Roleplay
1. Download the Required Software
Aside from the GTA V base game from Steam or Epic Games Store, you’ll need to download Rockstar Games Launcher for accessing other games from Rockstar Game and FiveM, which is the platform for the servers. Be sure that all software is linked to your account.
2. Choose a Server
There are hundreds and even thousands of roleplay servers that you can join. If you want to join an Indonesian server, look for servers from Indonesia. Some of the recommended Indonesian servers are Indopride, Kota Kita, Exodus Prime Indonesia, Nusantara Roleplay, State of Indonesia, etc. One of the most popular servers in the world is No Pixel.
3. Join the Towns’ Discord Servers
Before you join a server, be sure you’ve already added to the Town’s Discord server. You’ll see the Discord of the server you chose from the website or social media linked to the server. By joining the Discord servers, you’ll be able to access the rules.
4. Make Sure Your PC Meets the Minimum Requirements
Since this game is already quite demanding and takes lots of memories to begin with, make sure that your device meets the minimum requirements:
- CPU Intel Core 2 Q6600 @ 2.40GHz / AMD Phenom 9850 @ 2.5GHz
- GPU NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB / Intel HD GT2
- RAM 8GB and above
- SSD 72GB + 8GB
Aside from that, you’ll need a stable internet connection (at least 20 Mbps) to run the game properly. And, prepare a VPN if you want to access foreign servers. Otherwise, you’ll just have to look for a server in FiveM and go directly to the Town.
Bear in mind that each server has a different content, such as building mods or car mods. If the specs of your device are limited, and you join a server that has lots of features and mods, you’ll experience some lags.
