Anthony Mackie has officially confirmed that Sam Wilson’s version of Captain America will be featured in two major Marvel films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. In a recent interview, Mackie expressed his readiness to wield the iconic shield for the next decade while hoping to star in another Captain America solo film.

"There are two Avengers films, hopefully another Captain America, and maybe a few surprise projects along the way," Mackie said in an interview with Esquire.

Mackie has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), where he debuted as Falcon, a former U.S. Air Force member who fights using a winged jetpack. Since then, he has appeared in multiple MCU films, including Avengers: Endgame (2019), where Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) officially passed down his iconic shield to Sam Wilson.

Despite ongoing rumors about Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers, the actor has repeatedly denied them. With Mackie’s confirmation, Sam Wilson is now officially the primary Captain America in the Multiverse Saga.

Aside from appearing in the Avengers films, Mackie also hinted at possible cameos in other MCU projects, similar to his surprise appearance in Ant-Man (2015). Jokingly, he imagined a scenario where his character randomly encounters other superheroes. “Oh, Spider-Man! Oh, Fantastic Four! What are you guys doing here?” he said with a laugh.

Before stepping into the massive war in Avengers: Doomsday, Mackie will first lead his own solo film in Captain America: Brave New World. The film will introduce several new characters, including Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), who takes on the role of Falcon, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross—now the President of the United States—and Shira Haas as Sabra. Tim Blake Nelson will also return as The Leader, last seen in The Incredible Hulk (2008).

The official synopsis reveals that Sam Wilson will be caught in a global crisis after a direct encounter with President Ross. This conflict will escalate into a dangerous conspiracy threatening world stability, with strong hints pointing toward the rise of Red Hulk.

As part of the MCU's Phase 5, Brave New World will be released before Thunderbolts on May 2, 2025. Meanwhile, Phase 6 will kick off with The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025), followed by two major films—Avengers: Doomsday (May 1, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (May 7, 2027).
