The Avengers: Doomsday trailer has become one of the most anticipated moments for Marvel fans—not only because it marks the return of the Avengers in the Multiverse Saga era, but also because Marvel Studios’ promotional move this time is considered historic.
So far, the plot details of Avengers: Doomsday remain tightly guarded. Aside from the star-studded cast and the confirmation that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU—not as Tony Stark, but as Doctor Doom—very little is publicly known about this new version of the iconic character.
What Doom’s true intentions are, how the multiverse will operate, and how MCU heroes will be brought together are still major mysteries.
The hope of getting an early glimpse is now closer than ever. A major report from Collider confirms that the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer will be released on December 19, 2025, alongside the theatrical debut of Avatar: Fire and Ash. What makes this even more surprising is the fact that Marvel is releasing the trailer a full year before the film arrives on December 18, 2026.
This is what breaks a 14-year MCU tradition. Previously, not a single Avengers film had released a trailer this early. The Avengers (2012) released its trailer 285 days before the film, Age of Ultron 189 days prior, Infinity War 150 days, and Endgame only 140 days before its premiere. Over the years, the gap between trailer and release had become increasingly shorter—until Doomsday, which radically reverses that trend in a major way.
Why is this move necessary? The answer is simple: the MCU needs new momentum. In the Multiverse Saga phase, several films have underperformed at the box office. Avengers: Doomsday is seen as a turning point—the film expected to restore Marvel’s glory reminiscent of the Infinity Saga. Building hype far earlier is therefore a strategic and logical decision.
Releasing the trailer alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash is also a smart marketing move. The previous two Avatar films each surpassed US$2 billion. Introducing Doomsday to the world’s largest moviegoing audience provides a massive publicity boost.
Avengers: Doomsday is clearly not just another Avengers movie—it represents a major gamble for Marvel Studios. And by breaking a 14-year tradition, Marvel is signaling that they are ready to do whatever it takes to return the MCU to the peak of its success.
