Paper Rex is one of the biggest powers in the Asia Pacific that has participated in all VALORANT international tournaments in 2022. At the time of writing, f0rsakeN and co. are competing in the VALORANT Champions 2022 Istanbul.

Dunia Games had the opportunity to conduct an interview with Paper Rex. In the interview, Paper Rex told us about its inception.

The Inception of Paper Rex

“In February 2020, Paper Rex was established in Singapore. The four co-founders, Matt, Nikhil, Gad, and Harley, were all teenagers when esports first gained popularity in the early 2000s.

With a shared passion for esports, we wanted to create a team that we could be proud of – one that prioritizes players and keeps its commitments. Esports, as a young industry, has had its fair share of problems with dishonest people, and we have all had disappointing encounters working in jobs that left us with unfulfilled promises.

All of the co-founders of Paper Rex had a shared background with, and love for, the game CS:GO, so when we first started the team in 2020, that was our game of choice. Unfortunately, we have almost nothing to show for the year we spent in the game – it wasn't a successful period for us.

After moving our CS:GO team to VALORANT in February of 2021, things started to pick up. In the beginning, it was hard - we were struggling in matches as we had a lot less experience than our competitors playing a new game.

After a few months, we finally started to find our footing. Since then we have continued to work hard, which has yielded us a few very notable placements in international tournaments, going up against the best teams in the world.”

It’s fair to say that Paper Rex is currently one of the best teams in Southeast Asia, and has proven that it can compete with world-class teams.
