The arrival of MPL MY S17 has not only served as a battleground for the best teams in Malaysia but has also become an important stage for the growth of esports across Southeast Asia. The tournament has increasingly been positioned as part of a broader strategy to build a more mature and sustainable esports ecosystem.
Over the past few years, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has grown into one of the most popular esports titles in the world. In Malaysia, the game’s popularity has continued to rise alongside the rapid development of the competitive scene. Because of this, MPL MY S17 has arrived with major initiatives that have not only focused on competition but also on strengthening the esports industry as a whole.
The organization of MPL MY S17 has also marked a new step by MOONTON Games in reinforcing Malaysia’s position as one of Southeast Asia’s esports centers. Through various collaborations with government institutions, esports associations, and industry partners, the league has been projected to become a key foundation for long-term development.
This vision was clearly presented during the MLBB Esports Malaysia 2026: MY Time, MY Era Press Conference, which was held at Quill City Mall on March 12, 2026. During the press conference, the organizers outlined several strategic initiatives behind MPL MY S17 to members of the media and stakeholders within the esports industry.
More than just a tournament, MPL MY S17 has become part of Malaysia’s broader effort to position itself as a global esports hub by 2030. This ambition has also been supported by government initiatives focusing on talent development and investment in the digital ecosystem.
With the various initiatives that have been announced, MPL MY S17 has not only delivered exciting competition in the Land of Dawn but has also opened the door for broader esports industry growth across Malaysia.
Esports Alliance Between Malaysia and Singapore
One of the most notable announcements surrounding MPL MY S17 has been the cross-border collaboration between the Malaysia Esports Federation and the Singapore Esports Association. Both organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen esports talent development across the region.
Through this partnership, professional players from both countries have gained wider opportunities to develop within the MLBB ecosystem. The collaboration has also opened the door for Singaporean talent to compete within the Malaysian league.
One of the most concrete implementations of this agreement has been the Expansion Team initiative introduced in MPL MY S17. The program has allowed Singapore-based players to participate in the Malaysian league, including those competing under organizations such as Team Flash.
MESF President Muhammad Naim Al Amin described the partnership as an important structural step for regional esports development. According to him, the collaboration has strengthened the competitive foundation of MPL MY S17 while creating opportunities for talent from both nations to grow together.
Meanwhile, SGEA Secretary General Kelvin Tan stated that regional partnerships like this have helped create a more dynamic esports ecosystem. With stronger competition, players, teams, and fans have all benefited from the continued growth of the league.
A New Era for MLBB Esports Malaysia
Behind the organization of MPL MY S17, MOONTON has also introduced the Partnership Programme, which has become the new foundation for the professional league ecosystem. The initiative has aimed to create a more stable and professional competitive environment for participating teams.
During the press conference, the full lineup of eight partner teams competing in MPL MY S17 was officially revealed. The announcement ended weeks of speculation within the community regarding which organizations would join the program.
Through the Partnership Programme, teams have received more structured support from the league. This support has covered multiple aspects, ranging from competition management to brand and business development for participating organizations.
Head of Business Development for Malaysia Esports at MOONTON Games, Krystal Tan, explained that the initiative has represented a major step toward improving the professionalism of esports in Malaysia. With a more stable system in place, players and organizations have been able to grow in a sustainable manner.
In the long term, MPL MY S17 has been expected not only to produce new champions but also to create iconic figures capable of representing Malaysia on the global esports stage.

Beyond offline competition, MPL MY S17 has also introduced various digital activities designed to strengthen engagement with the community. These initiatives have included social media campaigns, community challenges, and interactive fan engagement programs.
MOONTON has also ensured that MPL MY S17 will deliver a full season of competition supported by various programs and activities. By combining live matches with digital engagement, the league has continued to maintain its reputation as one of the biggest MLBB competitions in Southeast Asia.

To expand the league’s reach even further, MPL MY S17 has partnered with several major media companies. One of them is the streaming platform Tonton, which has served as the Official Streaming Partner.

Investing in the Next Generation of Esports
Beyond professional competition, MOONTON has continued to invest in the development of young esports talent. One key initiative has been the MOONTON Student Leader Championship, which has involved more than 300 collegiate teams in its fifth season.
The program has provided a clear pathway for young players to transition into the professional scene through the MLBB Academy League Malaysia.
At the school level, the Guru Juara MOONTON Masterclass has also played an important role in grassroots esports development. The program previously reached more than 100 schools across Selangor.
In 2026, the initiative has expanded to Kuala Lumpur with the goal of introducing structured and responsible gaming to students.
