Genshin Impact welcomes another adorable character. Hu Tao is the 77th director of the Wangshen Funeral Parlor. The girl is also Zhongli’s boss!

Hu Tao wields a polearm with a Pyro Vision. She is considered as a DPS and her main source of damage is her Elemental Skill, Guide to Afterlife. This skill raises her ATK and changes her DMG to Pyro DMG, but she sacrifices 30% of her HP when activating the skill.

Hu Tao DPS Build

As mentioned before, Hu Tao deals tremendous damage when her Elemental Skill, Guide to Afterlife, is activated. Her  DMG is transformed into Pyro DMG and gains bonus ATK based on her max HP. But Hu Tao will sacrifice 30% of her HP when activating the skill.

Pay attention to her Normal and Charge Attack Talent: Secret Spear of Wangsheng and her Passive Talent: Sanguine Rouge. Secret Spear of Wangsheng is Hu Tao’s main DMG dealer. If her Normal and Charge Attack is too weak, then her Elemental Skill will be weak too -  so does the reverse.

Sanguine Rouge grants +33% Pyro DMG buff when Hu Tao’s HP is below 50%. So you have to play her when her HP is below 50% to optimize her DMG output.

With Elemental Burst Spirit Soother, Hu Tao deals AoE Pyro DMG and heals herself. This Elemental Burst can be helpful or detrimental. It can save Hu Tao in critical situations but it can also cause you to lose the Sanguine Rouge buff.

One more thing, Hu Tao’s Base Attack is low, so using a weapon or Artifact with ATK% won’t be effective.

Weapon

Most Recommended

Staff of Homa (5✰): HP increased by 20~40%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 0.8~1.6% of the wielder's Max HP. When the wielder's HP is less than 50%, this ATK bonus is increased by an additional 1~1.8% of Max HP.

It’s a weapon meant for Hu Tao. Staff of Homa’s sub-stat is Crit DMG%. It’s passive skill increases the user’s max HP so it will enhance Hu Tao’s Elemental Skill.

Primordial Jade Winged-Spear (5✰): On hit, increases ATK by 3.2~6.0% for 6s. Max 7 stacks. This effect can only occur once every 0.3s. While in possession of the maximum possible stacks, DMG dealt is increased by 12~24%.

Other Options

Deathmatch (4✰): If there are at least 2 opponents nearby, ATK is increased by 16~32% and DEF is increased by 16~32%. If there are less than 2 opponents nearby, ATK is increased by 24~48%.

Dragon’s Bane: Increases DMG against opponents affected by Hydro or Pyro by 20~36%.

Artifact

Hu Tao’s Base Attack is low so using ATK% won’t be effective. Instead, the best additional stats for Hu Tao are HP% and HP, considering that Elemental Skill Guide to Afterlife’s DMG increase depends on these two sub-stats.

The recommended Artifact arrangement for Hu Tao is:

• Timepiece: HP% ;
• Goblet: Pyro DMG Bonus%;
• Crown: Crit Rate% > Crit DMG% > HP%.

The recommended sub-stats for each Artifact are Crit Rate%, Crit DMG%, HP%, and HP.

Crimson Witch of Flame Set:

• 2 set: Pyro damage bonus +15%;
• 4 set: Increases Overloaded and Burning DMG by 40%. Increases Vaporize and Melt DMG by 15%. Using an Elemental Skill increases the 2-Piece Set Bonus by 50% of its starting value for 10s. Max 3 stacks.

Lavawalker

• 2 set: Pyro RES +40%;
• 4 set: Increases DMG against opponents affected by Pyro by 35%

Crimson Witch + Noblesse Oblige:

• 2 set: Pyro DMG bonus +15%; +18%;
• 2 set: Elemental Burst DMG +20%;

Talent Priority

You need a lot of resources to increase talent level while it takes a lot of time to collect them. Here is the talent priority for Hu Tao:

1. Guide to Afterlife (Elemental Skill);
2. Secret Spear of Wangsheng (Normal dan Charge Attack);
3. Spirit Soother (Elemental Burst).
