Ditto is a jelly-like pokemon with small round eyes and a distinct long curved mouth. The most notable ability of this pokemon is that it can mimic the form of other pokemon while still having its face.
In Pokemon GO, there are no noticeable differences when a Ditto disguises itself as another pokemon. You will only realize that it’s Ditto after capturing it and transformed into its original form.
Can Ditto disguise itself as any Pokemon in Pokemon GO? Apparently not, trainers! Niantic decided to make Ditto to disguise itself as the commonly Pokemon that you stumble upon so frequently.
As of April 1, 2020, the Pokemon that Ditto usually disguises as are Weedle, Paras, Venonat, Voltorb, Hoothoot, Ledyba, Spinarak, Hoppip, Remoraid, Seedot, Whismur, Skitty, Gulpin, Numel, Bidoof, and Foongus. So don’t be surprised if you catch one of those pokemon and it suddenly changes into Ditto, trainers!
Ditto used to be able to disguise as other common Pokemon, such as Magikarp, Pidgey, and Rattata. However, after the release of the shiny forms in Pokemon GO, Niantic didn’t want trainers to be disappointed that the shiny pokemon they just caught turned into a Ditto.
Therefore, Niantic made sure that any pokemon with a released shiny form, can’t be mimicked by Ditto. If a Pokemon that Ditto can mimic is having its shiny form release, then Niantic would make a replacement in other species of Pokemon.
Ditto can transform itself into the Pokemon it comes up against if you bring it into a Gym Battle or even Raid Battle. Furthermore, Ditto can even mimic its enemy’s movesets! But hold on, you should not rush in bringing Ditto into battles, trainers, although it can mimic the movesets, its strength won’t be the same.
Happy Ditto-hunting for your Pokedex collection, trainers! In the Special Research Task, there’s also a requirement of catching a Ditto in order to finish the quest. Check out the explanation on the following video by Dunia Games, with Professor Ado as your guide:
