The Legendary Generation 3 Pokemon Groudon is back in Pokemon GO until 16 June 2022, replacing Kyogre in Tier-5 Raid Battles. It’s time to catch Groudon and its Candy/ XL Candy as Level 31 Trainers and above can now collect them.

But that’s not all, you can also catch Shiny Groudon if you haven’t yet. Groudon is a great Ground-type attacker to have in Raids or Team Rocket Battles. Groudon can also be used in Master League PvP battles. However, you are going to need the TM Elite Charge if you don’t have Fire Punch yet to give Groudon an alternative attack in PvP Battles.

To beat Groudon in Tier-5 Raid Battles, you’ll need at least 3 Trainers with superior lineups of Pokemon. However, if you only have common Pokemon, it’ll take at least 5 Trainers or more to ensure your victory.

Use Water, Grass, or Ice-type Pokemon to get the 160% Damage Boost against Groudon. Some of the best Pokemon for you to use are Kyogre and Zarude. You can also use more common Pokemon as the alternatives.

Some of these Pokemon can be used as your alternatives against Groudon as they are easy to get and will save you more Stardust if they have decent CP. For Water-types, you can use Swampert, Samurott, Feraligatr, and Kingler.

As for Grass-types, you can use Tangrowth, Torterra, Venusaur, Sceptile, Leafeon, Alolan Exeggutor, or Roserade. For Ice-types, use Galarian Darmanitan, Mamoswine, or Weavile. These Pokemon are easy to get from the wild. You just need to evolve them and you’ll be ready for the battle.

You can also use Mega Evolutions such as Blastoise, Venusaur, or Gyarados, given that now you can use Mega Evolutions for free.

If you manage to beat Groudon, you’ll get the chance to catch it with a Max CP of 2351 (Level 20) or Max CP of 2939 (Level 25) during the Sunny/Clear weather boost. Try your best not to let your Groudon escape, use a Golden Razz Berry and make an Excellent Curveball Throw to get a bigger chance to catch it.

After making a catch, you’ll get its Candy and XL Candy, which can be used to power up your Groudon. Level 50 Groudon could potentially have a Max CP of 4652, which is very high. And, it will be stronger when the Primal Groudon form is eventually released.
