The Story of Hanabi—Does She Have a Special Connection with Hayabusa?
Her lore is one of the most emotional and layered in the entire Land of Dawn.
Mobile Legends | 23 April
If you play Mobile Legends: Bang Bang often, you’re probably already familiar with this marksman hero. She has an elegant appearance, wears a distinctive Japanese ninja outfit in deep red, and her skills can send an entire enemy team scattering with arrows that ricochet in every direction. Yep—she’s Hanabi, the “fire flower” of the Iga clan.
But don’t be fooled—Hanabi isn’t just a pretty hero who’s fun to carry with. Behind every arrow lies a deep story: one of burning ambition, love that withered before it could bloom, and betrayal that turned a gifted student into a dangerous rogue ninja.
Her lore is one of the most emotional and layered in the entire Land of Dawn. So, get ready—because we’re going to dissect Hanabi’s life story from start to finish!
The World Behind the Shadows
In the eastern corner of the Land of Dawn lies a region shrouded in eternal mist and dark bamboo forests—it’s called the Cadia Riverlands. Here, ninjas, sorcerers, and spirit beings coexist within traditions dating back thousands of years.
It is here that the most feared, most mysterious, and most dangerous clan in the entire world was born… the Scarlet Shadow Clan.
A Little Girl Named Hanabi
Hanabi is no ordinary child. Since birth, she has been “marked” by her clan as the heir to the most powerful forbidden technique, “fire flower ninjutsu,” or Hanabi no jutsu in its original language.
The name “Hanabi” itself means “fire flower” in Japanese. And that’s no coincidence. Her parents, who were clan elders, named her according to a destiny determined even before she was born.
“You are the fire that will burn away the darkness… or burn yourself.” The clan elder’s words to little Hanabi
Little Hanabi’s life was incredibly harsh. From a very young age, she was trained to master the clan’s secret weapons (kunai, shuriken, and fire arrows), meditation and spiritual energy control, parkour and shadow movement, and the basics of fire-element ninjutsu.
But behind all that rigorous training, Hanabi remained a little girl who had a friend...
Hayabusa — The Friend, The Shadow
Now, this is the most important and most heartwarming part of Hanabi’s lore. Within the Scarlet Shadow clan, there was a boy who was also being trained to become an elite ninja. His name was Hayabusa—who would later become one of the most legendary ninjas in the Land of Dawn.
Hanabi and Hayabusa grew up together since childhood. They trained together, studied together, and even taught each other. While Hanabi excels in long-range techniques and fire control, Hayabusa is a master of shadow movement and speed.
Hayabusa is known as the most naturally gifted student. He is calm, focused, and possesses an almost supernatural fighting intuition. As for Hanabi? She relies more on hard work, sheer determination, and an unyielding spirit. Their healthy rivalry actually drives both of them to improve far faster than the other students.
Amidst those grueling training sessions, something warmer began to grow between them. It’s not just competition—but also care, trust, and a mutual understanding rarely shared with others. They are each other’s secrets in a world full of shadows.
Like Yin and Yang, they complement each other. Their relationship is incredibly complicated. Not just ordinary friends, but not an official couple either. More like... “two souls bound by the same fate, yet forced to walk separate paths.”
“You are the light I chase... and the shadow I leave behind.” But unfortunately, their paths must part ways for one major reason…
The Clan’s Forbidden Secret
The Scarlet Shadow Clan harbors a dark secret that not even all its members know.
Deep within the clan’s headquarters lies a forbidden ninjutsu scroll—a technique said to be capable of destroying an entire city in a single strike, yet also capable of destroying its user from within.
This technique is called “Ogi: Ryusen Kaen” — the forbidden art: the fiery dragon’s onslaught. The clan elders want Hanabi to master this technique. Why? Because Hanabi possesses the strongest affinity for fire that has been born into their clan in recent generations.
But there’s a brutally harsh condition. To fully master this technique, Hanabi must sacrifice her emotional bonds—including the bond she shares with Hayabusa. Because, according to the elders, emotions are a ninja’s greatest weakness.
“A fire fueled by love will die out. A fire fueled by resolve will burn forever.” Hanabi is faced with an agonizing choice...
A Painful Farewell
This is the part that gets emotional. Hayabusa, on the other hand, has his own path. He’s been chosen to undergo the Shadow Trial—a dangerous mission that requires him to travel far from the clan and face demons in another dimension. It’s part of his destiny to become the “Sword of the Scarlet Shadow.”
The night before Hayabusa leaves, Hanabi and Hayabusa meet for the last time as... friends. They sit under a cherry blossom tree by the river, and Hayabusa says something Hanabi will always remember: “Hanabi, you are the brightest flame I’ve ever seen. Don’t let anyone extinguish you—not even your own clan.”
The next day, Hayabusa left. And Hanabi... chose to stay behind and study that forbidden technique. Not because she had forgotten Hayabusa, but precisely because she wanted to become strong enough to one day... protect the people she cared about.
Kagura — The Mysterious Senior
Amid her grueling training, Hanabi had one influential senior figure: Kagura. Kagura is a Young Onmyouji—a practitioner of Japanese spiritual magic who uses talismanic paper and a magic umbrella. Although Kagura isn’t a pure ninja like Hanabi, she is part of the same circle of spiritual power in the Cadia Riverlands.
Hanabi and Kagura’s relationship is unique: Kagura is older and more experienced in magic and the spirit world, while Hanabi excels in combat and direct ninja techniques. They respect each other, though they sometimes disagree on methods.
Kagura often warns Hanabi about the dangers of forbidden techniques: “Hanabi, power born of darkness will always demand a price. Make sure you’re ready to pay it.”
And Kagura also has her own connection to Hayabusa—the three of them are part of the “triangle of fate” intertwined within the lore of the Cadia Riverlands.
The Rise of the Kunoichi
After years of grueling training, Hanabi finally mastered fire ninjutsu at a level no one had ever achieved before.
Technically, her signature weapon is a fire bow with arrows that split and scatter—like fireworks exploding and sweeping away all enemies around her. Her signature abilities:
- Ninjutsu: Petal Barrage—arrows that split into multiple projectiles
- Higanbana — a “blooming” fire flower that traps enemies
- Ninjutsu: Equinox — an ultimate that summons hundreds of arrows at once
Hanabi is no longer the little girl training in the clan courtyard. She is a dangerous adult kunoichi — calm, precise, and deadly.
Conflict with the Shadow — Hanzo and the Threat from Within
The Scarlet Shadow Clan is not entirely pure. A dark figure threatens from within the clan itself — Hanzo, a ninja who has fallen into darkness and made a pact with a demon to gain unlimited power.
Hanzo uses a forbidden soul technique that allows him to separate his spirit from his body—a technique so dangerous it is considered the ultimate betrayal of the clan’s philosophy.
Hanabi and Hanzo stand on opposite sides:
- Hanabi represents “the fire that brings light”—a power used to protect
- Hanzo represents “the darkness that devours from within”—a power born of greed
This conflict is far from over. And Hanabi knows that one day, she must face this shadow head-on.
Heroes Connected to Hanabi
Here is a map of Hanabi’s connections to other heroes:
Zilong (Cadia Riverlands Ally)
Zilong is a dragon knight from the Cadia Riverlands. Although they come from different backgrounds, they share the same territory and sometimes find themselves on the same side in larger conflicts.
Ling (Ninja from a Different Clan)
Ling is a ninja from a different clan who also operates in the Cadia Riverlands. There is indirect rivalry between their clans, though they aren’t necessarily personal enemies.
Hanabi’s World After Being Cast Aside
Hanabi now stands between two worlds: her clan’s world—which demands she remain the perfect weapon, devoid of emotion, devoid of ties.
Her own world—which holds memories of a boy who once told her she was the brightest fireflower he’d ever seen.
She hasn’t found the answer to the biggest question of her life: “Am I fighting for my clan… or for the people I love?” But one thing is certain—as long as her bow remains in her hands, and as long as sparks still bloom on every arrow… Hanabi will not stop fighting.
