Ninken aka ninja dogs are one of the effective and amazingly strong companions for shinobi. Although they have enormous body like Myoboku toad or Ryuchi snake, but they are still able to combine their power with human ninja partner to defeat their enemies.

Not many characters or clans are known to pair up with dogs outside Konohagakure Village. Therefore, this time we will discuss a number of ninken of Konoha who have appeared in Naruto and Boruto anime.

Inuzuka Clan’s Ninken

1. Akamaru

Partner as well as Kiba’s best friend. At first, this snow-white colored with brown patches dog is hostile towards his masters -- he even peeing on him (and it made Kiba’s mother and sister laughed) when they first met.

However, their relationship continued and they are really close. To the extent that Akamaru was jealous when Kiba tried to flirt with Tamaki.

2. Akemaru

First appeared in Boruto Episode 93, Akemaru seems to be one of Akamaru’s puppies if we look at his similar appearance; it’s just that he has red fur. Just like his fur color, ‘ake’ means ‘scarlet’. 

3. Kuromaru

This one-eyed and dark furred dog is Tsume Inuzuka’s partner, Kiba’s mother. Not only eye-catching because of his eyepatch, so far Kuromaru is the only Inuzuka Clan’s ninken who can speak human language.

4. Three Haimaru Brothers

Inuzuka Clan’s triplet canines that are friendly but will wreak havoc during a battle. The names of Hana’s partners, Kiba’s sister, are named after the color of their fur ‘Hai’ means ‘ash’ or ‘grey’.

5. Chamaru

The small Ninken, Akita Inuzuka’s partner who lost one of his legs due to some reason, however Katasuke Tono gives him a prosthetic leg so he can live like normal dogs. Since then, Akita joined Konohagakure’s Ninja Weapons Division. He first appeared in Boruto Chapter 18 manga.

6. Gaku Inuzuka’s Ninken

Gaku Inuzuka is one of the members of Minato Namikaze team when they fight A and Killer B for the first time. Its name is unknown, however it was seen that this ninken has all-brown fur.

Kakashi Hatake’s Ninken

The ninja dogs that can be summoned through Kuchiyose by Kakashi. They all wear hehe-nono-moheji vest; aka the faces of Japanese scarecrows (the meaning of 'kakashi') which are formed by using Japanese hiragana characters.

7. Pakkun

One of Kakashi’s ninja dog that looks like a bulldog. Just like Kuromaru, Pakkun is Kakashi’s only ninken who is able to speak human language.

8. Bull

If Pakkun is small bulldog, then he is a giant bulldog with large body. He is the biggest ninken in his pack, Pakkun often rides atop of this dog’s head.

9. Akino

It seems like he is Kakashi’s ninken that is the easiest to remember; not only because of his sunglasses, he also always appear in front each time summoned by their master.

10. Shiba

Light grey fur dog with spiky mohawk black hair which makes him quite eye catching.

Although in Japan there is a famous dog breed called shiba inu, Shiba doesn’t have a similar appearance to the thick furry dog.

11. Bisuke

Maybe because of his brown fur that resembles biscuit, Kakashi named him Bisuke -- which sounded like ‘biscuit’ in Japanese. Besides that, he also has the kanji for shinobi on his forehead.

12. Urushi

The dog with light brown fur and messy bangs. He looks like he is always angry thanks to his sharp eyes.

13. Guruko

Kakashi’s ninken that has dangling ears like Akamaru. He looks similar to Naruto because he has spiky hair and three strands of mustache.

14. Uhei

Another ninken that looks quite eye catching because his body is wrapped with bandages. Certainly it's not because of illness, considering that there are many ninja who wrapped their bodies with bandages.

Those are 14 names of Konoha ninken. Even though all of them don't get much attention, it's clear that they have their own personalities.
