Disney has released a new teaser trailer and announced four additional cast members for their anime/live action hybrid fantasy adventure project called Dragons of Wonderhatch (Wonderhatch -Sora-Tobu Ryu no Shima-). The trailer also reveals that the show will premiere on December 20, 2023 on Disney+.

The new cast for the live action segment includes:

  1. Rena Tanaka as Hana, Nagi's mother who works as a manga creator.
  2. Masaki Miura as Taichi, Nagi's single father.
  3. Riko Narumi as Ayana Nijisaki, a lawyer who handles cases involving Akuta in the real world.
  4. SUMIRE as Saira, a researcher who is considered an outcast in Upananta, the real world in the story.

While the live action segments depict the "real world," the anime segments present another world where the dragon riders hear the screams of the dragons and communicate with them. Winter 2023 will be the time when Disney+ will air this anime.

Dragons of Wonderhatch has two main characters: Nagi, a high school girl in the real world, and Tyme, a boy who lives in another world where dragon riders hear the screams of the dragons and communicate with them. Movie actress Sena Nakajima plays Nagi, while movie actor Daiken Okudaira plays Tyme. Yoshito Emmanuelle plays Nagi's friend Son, and Mackenyu Arata plays the dragon rider Akuta.

Other cast members include Kenjiro Tsuda as Gyro, a feared dragon rider who rules the world of Upananta, and Shunsuke Takeuchi as Gafin, Tyme's dragon who also roams with her in the real world.

The project features script writers such as Kyota Fujimoto, Takamasa Ōe, and Anna Kawahara. Producers such as Teruhisa Yamamoto, Hitoshi Itou, and Hideyuki Wakuta have also been involved in the project. C&I Entertainment, which was also involved in the movies Rurouni Kenshin and Tokyo Zombie, is the production company of the project. Production I.G is producing the anime segment of the project.

Director Kentaro Hagiwara, known for his work on Tokyo Ghoul, will direct the project after spending five years in development.

Meanwhile, Takashi Otsuka, who has experience with the Precure franchise and One Piece Stampede, will direct the anime segment. Original character and concept designer Posuka Demizu, also known for The Promised Neverland (manga), is also involved in the project.

With a combination of live action and anime segments and talented stars, Dragons of Wonderhatch promises to be a unique and mysterious adventure. Mark the release date on your calendar soon, as this show is sure to captivate both anime and live action fans.
