Minecraft is a game from Mojang Studios, and one of the most popular sandbox games to date. This game is available on various platforms, from PC, Xbox, to mobile. In addition to that, this game also provides lots of features that allow players to get as creative as they wish. Also in this game, you can explore the universe and build any kinds of structures. You can collect different kinds of resources to build your own world in the two modes available in the game.
Minecraft, which is made by a Swedish developer, supports two versions, namely Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Minecraft Bedrock Edition is a Minecraft game developed in the C++ programming language, while Minecraft Java Edition is a Minecraft game developed in Java.
The two versions may be visually similar, so perhaps you are still unable to tell them apart. On this occasion, Dunia Games would like to share with you the differences between the two as well as the download links for both versions of the game. Without further ado, let's get into it.
1. Both Support Multiplayer Mode
Both Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition both support the multiplayer feature, it's just that they're a bit different. In the Bedrock version, you play with friends on consoles or mobile devices that support cross-play, it doesn't have to be on the same platform, they can be on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, or mobile consoles. As for the Java Edition, although it supports cross-play, it is only limited to Windows, Linux, and macOS computers as it is not available for consoles and mobile devices.
2. Price Difference
Minecraft Bedrock costs differently, depending on the version on the platform you are using. On iOS/iPad and Fire OS, it costs only USD 6.99, while for Android users, it costs USD 7.49, then USD 20 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox consoles, USD 26.99 for Windows PCs and for the Nintendo Switch platform for USD 29.99. Meanwhile, Minecraft Java Edition costs USD 26.95 for all OS, starting from Mac, Windows and Linux.
3. Parental Guidance
Since this game is for all ages, and is actually child-oriented, but the content in the open community includes all kinds of mods, content, and in-game updates, thus, parents have to supervise their children when playing the game. The parental control feature is only available in Minecraft Bedrock Edition on the Xbox platform as it is strictly moderated and features parental controls exclusively.
4. Marketplace Differences
Minecraft Bedrock has a marketplace with various kinds of skins and add-ons that can be purchased legally. If you want to purchase well-designed official skins and install them easily, then Bedrock is the answer for you. Meanwhile, Minecraft Java supports community-made skins and add-ons that you can make yourself, download, or share with other users. So, if you want to go the extra mile to share free skins and more add-ons, go for the Java Edition.
5. Hardcore Mode
For those of you who enjoy these kinds of mode, Minecraft Java Edition comes with a special mode for those who like extreme difficulty levels. In this mode, it's much more challenging for players just to survive in the game, as if they die, they have to restart the game instead of respawning.
So, those were the biggest differences between the two versions of Minecraft. Now, let's delve deeper into the details in Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition.

Minecraft Java Edition: Features
Known as the original version of Minecraft, this version is made using the Java programming language and has several special features that only the game exclusively has, namely:
- The boats work just like normal boats. In the Bedrock Edition, you can float on a boat when you steer it. Whereas in the Java version, you can immediately aboard the boat and actually float without having to steer it. You can also throw items onto the boat and it will be floating on the boat.
- Realistic arrows, if you shoot an arrow between the fences, the arrow will not be able to penetrate and instead sticks in between the fence, if you try to shoot it in gaps such as the gap under the mattress, the gap in the bushes of trees, then the arrow will go through them.
- Smarter AI. For instance, when there’s a flame that blocks a road, and there’s a zombie chasing a villager next to the fire, the zombie will look for other ways to get around the flame instead of going through the fire like a normal zombie does in the Bedrock Edition. The same goes when you try to burn animals or chickens, they will look for the nearest body of water to extinguish the fire.
- More flexible buttons. In this version, when you put items parallel to your body, the item's position will be aligned with the direction your character is facing, so it may be useful for those of you Minecraft builders.
- Realistic splash water. This version has another fun detail. If you throw a splash water bottle at a lit candle, the fire will be extinguished.
- You can give armor and headgear to villagers. So, in this version, you can also equip villagers with headgears aside from armors to protect themselves from zombies.
- TNT may explode in water. By preparing blocks of sand and/or gravel, and then piling them on top of TNT, when it is ignited, it will be able to explode anything around it, even in water.
Minecraft Bedrock Edition: Features
Now that we know the special features of the Java Edition, let's find out about the exclusive features in Minecraft Bedrock Edition:
- 3D Skins, In this version of Minecraft, players can enjoy 3D skin features in terms of cosmetics, which is far better in comparison to the Java Edition. In Bedrock Edition, you can use 3D skins with features such as wings, horns, tails, etc, that you can get from free or paid 3D skins marketplaces.
- Minecraft Bedrock Edition Color Skins. In Minecraft Bedrock Edition, players can use cauldrons to color items made from leather. The colors can be mixed with each other in the cauldron to come up with different colors.
- Additional support from Mojang that supports creativity and customization, the devs created an official modding API.
- Baby mob variants. This feature is a common feature in Minecraft, where in this version, players can find many baby variants that are more like baby dolphins. And just like other monsters, their baby versions have bodies similar to adults but with bigger heads and smaller bodies.
- No need to squat to grab a block. Leaving a hanging part of a block in the air can be done by placing it on the edge of another block where the player is standing without having to crouch and find the right position.
