GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition was supposedly released to celebrate the three biggest titles in gaming history: GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas. However, the definitive edition has actually brought harm to the original versions in numerous aspects.
GTA Vice City: The Definitive Edition has an easter egg that ruins the entire timeline in the GTA series. But, before we delve deeper into the topic, let’s talk about the character behind the easter egg.
OG Loc’s Journey to Success (1992)
If you’ve played GTA San Andreas before, chances are, you’re already familiar with the rapper OG Loc. He’s introduced as someone who’s not the most talented rapper. However, with the help of CJ, who helps him steal Madd Dogg’s rhyme book, OG Loc starts to make his own music.
After that, OG Loc gets helped by Big Smoke to secure him a record contract. And, at the end of the story in GTA San Andreas, OG Loc has his own album titled Str8 From Tha Streetz.
Now, in GTA 4 (2008), you can find several posters that indicate OG Loc’s success as one of the biggest rappers. In GTA 5 (2013), you can also find his album titled OG Loc: Original, as well as his name on the Vinewood Walk of Fame. This means that, in the GTA HD Universe, OG Loc eventually made it into a superstar.
However, if we go back to the early parts of GTA San Andreas, OG Loc was a nobody. Neither Sweet nor Big Smoke was even willing to consider him a gangster material. But, he would still do some criminal acts, and got in and out of prison several times. Simply put, before 1992 (the year in which the events in GTA San Andreas take place), OG Loc was a nobody.
OG Loc’s Album in GTA Vice City: Definitive Edition (1986)
OG Loc’s backstory in GTA San Andreas shows that he’s a nobody in 1992 (and the years before that). However, in GTA Vice City Definitive Edition, which is set in 1986, we can find OG Loc’s album. The album shown in the image above looks very similar to the album found in GTA 5.
But, aside from OG Loc’s album, right next to it, you can also see Madd Dogg’s Tha Maddhouse. According to GTA Wiki, it’s Madd Dogg’s sixth album, released before the events of GTA 5 (2013). Yet, we can find this album in GTA Vice City: Definitive Edition, which is set in 1986.
To give you a better picture of this, I’ve made an illustration of the timelines in the GTA series related to these albums.
Easter eggs tend to make video games more fascinating with all of the lore that players have to discover and/or solve in order to get a better understanding of the game. However, this easter egg certainly ruins the entire timeline of the GTA series.
