Alter Ego has once again been placed under the spotlight ahead of the M7 World Championship. As one of Indonesia’s representatives, public expectations for their performance have remained extremely high. However, behind that status, several internal dynamics have surfaced, causing their preparation to have not progressed as smoothly as many have expected.

Discussions surrounding Alter Ego Issues have intensified following the long period after MPL ID in which the team has not participated in any additional tournaments. This situation has raised serious questions regarding the team’s readiness, particularly in maintaining competitive momentum and adapting to the international stage.

Amid growing attention, Dunia Games has secured an exclusive interview with Xepher. The interview has been conducted during the M7 Media Day session at Hotel Ayana Mid Plaza, Jakarta, providing a transparent platform for Alter Ego to openly explain their current condition.

Through this interview, Xepher has shared multiple perspectives related to Alter Ego Issues, ranging from the extended competitive break and training conditions to the challenges of playing under a BO1 format. His statements have offered a clear and honest picture of Alter Ego’s situation ahead of M7.

Xepher Reveals Alter Ego Issues Ahead of M7

In the exclusive interview with Dunia Games, Xepher has openly explained one of the most prominent Alter Ego Issues following the conclusion of MPL ID. He has highlighted the lengthy gap leading into M7, which he has considered risky in terms of maintaining team momentum.

"Actually, after MPL ID ended, I think the time gap to M7 has been quite long. It’s like the momentum has been lost. Our team also hasn’t joined any tournaments before M7, right? So the disadvantage has been that we haven’t been on stage for a long time, but the advantage has been that we haven’t shown our cards. In my opinion, it’s just so-so—there have been pros and cons."

Despite the drawbacks, Xepher has still attempted to view the situation from a positive angle. He has believed that skipping other tournaments has allowed Alter Ego to keep their strategies hidden, while still acknowledging it as part of the ongoing Alter Ego Issues that must be accepted.

Beyond preparation concerns, Xepher has also slipped in a lighthearted remark regarding his belief in Alter Ego’s luck factor heading into M7. The comment has reflected an effort to maintain a positive team atmosphere amid growing pressure.

"I like lucky numbers because we’re a lucky team, so my confidence in playing well at M7 is 7 percent—eh, sorry, 77 percent."

However, the most significant challenge has emerged from the technical training aspect. Xepher has revealed that practicing in a hotel environment has become one of the major Alter Ego Issues, especially when compared to the comfort and effectiveness of a proper bootcamp setting.

"What I’m worried about might be the training aspect. Since we’ve started practicing at the hotel, usually bootcamp feels much more comfortable. Normally after two games we can step outside for a smoke, but here it’s really difficult because everything is far. Also, for evaluation we usually use a TV and PC, while in the hotel we don’t have that and have to use only phones. That has become quite a big issue."

This situation has clearly affected the effectiveness of team evaluations and discussions. For Alter Ego, a team that has been known for detailed game analysis, limited facilities have become Alter Ego Issues that cannot be taken lightly ahead of a tournament as significant as M7.

In addition to training-related concerns, Xepher has also addressed challenges on the international stage, particularly regarding adaptation and match format. According to him, the BO1 format has been one of Alter Ego’s primary worries.

"And for the international stage, whether we like it or not, the players have to first see the situation and then adapt. BO1 is definitely very worrying because we’re a team that tends to heat up late, so that’s become one of our homework tasks."

This statement has emphasized that Alter Ego Issues have not been purely technical, but have also been closely tied to the team’s core playstyle. Alter Ego has been recognized as a team that excels in reading the game over time, something that becomes extremely challenging in a single-game format.

Despite the various issues that have been revealed, Xepher has stressed that Alter Ego’s identity will not change. He has remained confident that their aggressive and unique gameplay, combined with flexible drafts and highly versatile players, will continue to be their primary weapons at M7.

"But the thing I believe in is that we’ll still be Alter Ego with aggressive and unique gameplay. With drafts and players who are very versatile and capable of playing many heroes in many roles, that’s probably it."

Ultimately, the Alter Ego Issues ahead of M7 have not merely represented obstacles, but rather a test of the team’s maturity. With experience, strong character, and confidence in their own identity, Alter Ego has continued to enter M7 with strong ambition to compete at the highest level.
