Week 9, the final week of the regular season, now feels like a massive battlefield because almost every team still has a chance to reach the playoffs. This situation has made the atmosphere of MPL ID S17 feel far more intense than previous seasons.

Usually, by the end of the season, several teams have already secured comfortable positions in the safe zone. This time, however, the situation is completely different. Heading into the final week, only ONIC Esports has officially secured the regular season title and guaranteed a playoff spot. Outside of that, nobody is truly safe yet.

Even the seven teams below ONIC are still fighting each other for tickets to Jakarta International Velodrome. One victory can instantly boost a team’s standing in the rankings, while one defeat can drag them into the danger zone within days.

This is exactly why many fans have started calling MPL ID S17 the most exciting season in MPL Indonesia history. The competition has looked incredibly close, the overall team quality has appeared far more balanced, and almost every single match now carries a huge impact on the final standings.

Amid all the chaos, EVOS Esports has actually become one of the safest teams in the standings. After delivering outstanding performances in Week 7 and Week 8, EVOS’ playoff qualification odds have reportedly reached around 99 percent based on multiple playoff simulations.

Interestingly, however, there is still a one percent possibility that could prevent EVOS from reaching the playoffs. The scenario is extremely slim and difficult to happen, but mathematically, it remains possible. Because of that, Week 9 will still become a major deciding moment for the White Tigers to officially secure their playoff ticket.

EVOS’ Elimination Scenario 

The most interesting thing about EVOS’ current situation is the fact that they could actually qualify for the playoffs purely through the results of other matches. The next requirement comes from the match between Team Liquid ID and Geek Fam, which must end in a 2-1 result. However, that alone is not enough. When TLID faces Alter Ego, they must lose narrowly by at least 1-2 so the standings simulation can continue according to the required scenario.

Geek Fam must also defeat Natus Vincere with a clean 2-0 scoreline. The full points from that match would make the mid-table playoff race even more complicated.

On the other side, EVOS would also need to lose badly against ONIC with a 0-2 scoreline in their final match. Failing to secure any game points in that series is what makes EVOS vulnerable within this extreme standings simulation.

If all of those results happen simultaneously, only then would the possibility of EVOS missing the playoffs become realistic. However, the biggest problem is that the scenario feels extremely difficult to achieve considering the current state of MPL ID S17.

The same situation applies to Alter Ego, TLID, and Geek Fam. Every team is currently playing under massive pressure because one small mistake can instantly destroy their playoff hopes.

This has made every Week 9 match feel like a grand final. There is no longer any room for experimental drafts or relaxed gameplay. Every team will play at maximum level simply to survive in MPL ID S17.
