Ai Haibara, a female protagonist of the anime and manga series Detective Conan. This beautiful girl whose real name is Shiho Miyano is the inventor of APTX 4869 poison which reduced Shinichi Kudo to become Conan Edogawa, and Shiho became a victim of the poison herself. Previously Ai also had the codename Sherry and became a member of the Black Organization.

Shiho Miyano disguised herself as a child named Ai Haibara because she ran away from the pursuit of the Black Organization and lived with Professor Agasa. Ai is also one of the few characters in the Detective Conan series who knows that Shinichi is impersonating Conan. 1. She is a British-Japanese

Ai Haibara or Shiho Miyano was born in the secret crime syndicate "Black Organization". Her mother is a British woman named Elena Miyano and her father is Japanese named Atsushi Miyano.

2. Both of Her Parents were Scientists Who Developed the Silver Bullet Drug 

Both of her parents were scientists working for the Black Organization to develop a mysterious drug called "Silver Bullet". When Shiho was young, Elena and Atsushi died in an event that the Black Organization claims was an accident.

3. Has an older sister named Akemi Miyano

Unlike her older sister Akemi Miyano who lives a normal life in Japan, Ai Haibara aka Shiho Miyano was groomed by the Black Organization to take over her parents' research, by sending her to the United States for education at a very young age.

4. An Agent with Codename Sherry

Somehow in the United States Ai Haibara was able to speak broken English and developed a love for American peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Upon returning to Japan and reaching the age of 13, she begins work as a scientist for the Black Organization where she is given the alcohol code name "Sherry".

5. She Developed APTX 4869 When She Was 18 Years Old

Shiho was around 18 years old when she was able to develop the experimental test compound "APTX 4869" in which she found that the drug could be used as a lethal untraceable poison to serve the interests of the Black Organization. While researching the toxin's effects further and performing some tests on the lab rats, she noticed that one of the rats had shrunk in size and did not die, though she did not report this incident and kept it a secret from the Black Organization.

6. Her APTX 4869 Drug Shrink Shinichi Kudo's Body

The Black Organization begins using APTX 4869 made by Ai Haibara aka Shiho Miyano on humans to commit murders that cannot be traced by the police. Gin, who caught Shinichi Kudo for eavesdropping on Vodka's dealings with a company director and was unaware of the rare drug's side effects, poisoned Shinichi with APTX 4869 and left with his partner Vodka. In a hurry, Gin and Vodka left Shinichi who shrunk into a small child.

7. She Investigated Shinichi's House to Confirm His Death

Since no bodies were found, the Black Organization orders a search for Shinichi. Ai Haibara aka Shiho Miyano and his team were then sent to Shinichi's house twice to investigate and confirm Shinichi's death. However, during their second investigation, she suspects Shinichi has shrunk from the effects of the drug APTX 4869 after learning that Shinichi's childhood clothes had gone missing, which they were still in during their previous investigation.

Because Shiho doubted Shinichi's death, she decided to confirm Shinichi's status as "Deceased" so that the Black Organization would not investigate Shinichi's matter any further.

8. Her Sister Was Killed by Gin

After the events of the One Billion Yen Robbery Case, Ai Haibara learned that her older sister Akemi had died at the hands of Gin, but was given no further explanation. Because of this, she rebelled against Gin and his accomplice, and also refused to do any work until the Black Organization gave her a satisfactory explanation for why Akemi was executed.

9. She Drinks APTX 4869 To Escape Gin and Vodka Execution

Instead of giving her a justified reason, Gin and Vodka locked her in a closed room and handcuffed Ai Haibara to the wall while awaiting the execution order. Shiho, realizing that there was no other way out, consumed the APTX 4869 she had hidden in her pocket with the intention of killing herself, but shrunk into a small child instead. This allowed her to takeoff the handcuffs and use the garbage chute to get out of the closed room.

10. She Was Adopted By Professor Agasa

Realizing that only Shinichi Kudo would understand the situation because they were both victims of being shrunk by APTX 4869, Ai Haibara rushed to escape to Shinichi's house, but instead he fainted and was found by Professor Hiroshi Agasa due to his exhausted condition in front of Shinichi's house next door with Professor Agasa's house.

The Professor eventually adopts Shiho and learns that she is a former member of the Black Organization who created and developed APTX 4869, a drug that reduced Shinichi into his child form. Although the Professor thinks about telling Shinichi that he has found the creator of APTX 4869, Shiho insists on the Professor keeping everything that happened a secret because she wants to tell Shinichi everything about herself privately.

11. She Disguised as Teitan Elementary Student

To prevent the Black Organization from discovering that she has shrunk to a child, Shiho Miyano and the Professor create the pseudonym "Ai Haibara" and enroll as students at Teitan Elementary School (SD). From then on, she shamelessly lived with this old man of her grandfather's age without paying any household expenses, while constantly demanding to buy her a high-end luxury purse to be hers.

12. She Joined the Detective Boys Group

At Teitan Elementary School, Ai Haibara meets a shrunken Shinichi Kudo disguised as Conan Edogawa, along with other elementary school friends named Genta Kojima, Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya and Ayumi Yoshida. She eventually joins the Detective Boys and reveals to Conan that she was a member of the Black Organization under the codename "Sherry" which created APTX 4869. Ai also admits to Conan that she knows his true identity as Shinichi Kudo.

13. At First Conan didn't Trust Ai Because She was a Member of the Black Organization

Conan, who initially doesn't trust Ai Haibara due to being a former member of the Black Organization, protests the Professor about Ai's presence in his life. However, Conan then realizes that if Ai is captured again by the Black Organization, it will only be a matter of time before Conan can be caught too. Since then, Conan started to trust Ai and accepted Ai as a friend. In return Ai also considers Conan as her friend and although she doesn't think much about the childish actions of the Detective Boys brats. Ai appreciates all of them as precious close friends.

14. Vermouth Knows Ai and Conan's Secret

Vermouth, a member of the Black Organization who discovers that Shiho Miyano and Shinichi Kudo were shrunk by APTX 4869 and are still living their respective lives as Ai Haibara and Conan Edogawa, plans to kill Sherry without the knowledge of the Black Organization. However, due to the actions of the FBI and Conan's intervention, Vermouth's plan backfires and Conan manages to persuade Vermouth to leave Sherry in peace. Even though the promise was broken again when Bourbon received information on Sherry's whereabouts which eventually leaked to the Black Organization.

To avoid the Black Organization's assassination plan, Conan, together with Yukiko Kudo and Subaru Okiya, succeeded in devising a plan that resulted in an explosion that was able to keep Shiho's secret identity. Although they manage to fool the Black Organization into believing Sherry died in the explosion, Vermouth learns that Sherry survived and keeps this knowledge a secret from the rest of the Black Organization.

15. She Experimented on APTX 4869 Antidote

Currently, Ai Haibara has started work on the APTX 4869 Antidote Prototype knowing that Baijiu can temporarily restore their body, as well as obtaining limited information about APTX 4869 from Akemi's Floppy Disk and Pisco's computer. However, because most of the valuable data was destroyed by the Black Organization, the progress for the antidote could be slow.
