Sage Mode is one of the secret weapons used by Naruto and Jiraiya when they face life-threatening opponents such as Pain and Madara. But what makes Sage Mode so good? Who are the known users? And what are the senjutsu obtained from Sage Mode?

What is Sage Mode?

Sage Mode or Sennin Mode is a technique that increases the user’s power by blending natural energy and their chakra. Doing so the user will produce “senjutsu chakra.”

So far, there are two known locations to master Sage Mode: in Myoboku Mountain from the toads and in Ruichi Cave from the snakes.

To enter the Sage Mode, the user has to concentrate and balance natural energy, physical energy, spiritual energy. If there’s too litle natural energy, then the technique won’t work. But if there’s too much natural energy, then their body will transform into stone.

The toads from the Myoboku Mountain got an easier method to learn the technique, they created a special oil that help absorb natural energy and a special staff to knock out all the natural energy inside the gatherer when they start to absorb too much natural energy.

The method used by the snakes from the Ryuichi Cave is more extreme, the person must be bitten by the White Snake Sage who will inject their body with nautral energy. If their body is strong enough then the person will obtain Sage Mode. if not, the elder will eat them.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Sage Mode

Advantages

• Enhanced physical strength, speed, stamina, reflex, and perception;
• The user’s ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu are more powerful;
• Can sense chakra without seeing them;
• The Sage Mode from the Myoboku Mountains can manipulate natural energy to extend attack range;
• The Sage Mode from Ryuichi Cave allows the user to manipulate inorganic substances;
• When an opponent drains their chakra and failed to controlo it, their body will turn into stone.

Disadvantages

• The user has to remain perfectly still and need high concentration to gather natural energy;
• Has a time limit;
• Require a strong physique to balance the natural energy.

Known Sage Mode User

As mentioned before, there are two schools to learn the Sage Mode - Myoboku Mountain or Ryuichi Cave. But some learned the technique from other places.

Myoboku Mountain Toad School

• Jiraiya (not perfect and need aid from Fukasaku and Shima);
• Naruto Uzumaki;
• Minato Namikaze;
• Gamakichi;
• Gamamaru;
• Fukasaku;
• Shima.

Ryuichi Cave Snake School

• Kabuto Yakushi;
• Mitsuki.

Other Sage Mode

• Hashirama Senju;
• Madara Uchiha (never officially lear the technique but later became the Jinchuuriki of the Ten-tailed Beast and stolen the Hashirama cell to obtain massive natural energy);
• Obito Uchiha (never learn the technique but is the Jinchuuriki of the Ten-tailed Beast);
•  Jugo (His clan’s innate ability to absorb natural energy from their surrounding).
