1. Star-Lord's Father in the MCU is Different in the Comics

9. Star-Lord was Once the President of the Spartax Empire
Although Star-Lord Peter Quill is reckless and arrogant sometimes, in reality, he was once a leader of a large organization. Quill was appointed President of Spartax Empire to replace J'son because Quill was deemed worthy due to the courage that Quill had, especially when he was fighting evil aliens.

Even though Peter Quill aka Star-Lord has a different story, his background and destiny are the same. In Marvel Preview #4, Quill introduced himself as the Guardian of the Galaxy, and moments later, the story was changed by including his father, J'son. However, a retcon happened in 2013, where Quill was defined as an ordinary human with a naughty nature.
