In the comics, Surtur is defeated by Odin, while in the film, Thor: Ragnarok, he is defeated by Thor and is resurrected to fight Hela. There are some interesting facts about Surtur that can only be found in comics.
So, this time the Dunia Games team will discuss facts about Surtur that are rarely known by MCU fans. Come on, let's see in more detail.
- Came from the Asgard Dimension
In both the MCU films and the comics, Surtur is a Marvel character who looks a lot like an enormous fire demon. He himself indeed comes from the Asgard dimension, with evil intelligence and also accompanied by great power that can match the other Norse Gods. Now with that, of course Surtur has been considered an absolute evil force that the Asgardian people are very afraid of.
- Existed Before Odin Was Born
Surtur is a very ancient mystical creature, that's because his existence predates the existence of Odin himself. So with that in mind, it's no wonder he really knows the ins and outs of Asgard, as well as the other Norse Gods. But apart from Surtur, it turns out that there are also several other Asgard enemies, such as Ymir the Frost Giant, the Midgard Serpent, but of all of them only Surtur is considered the most powerful and dangerous for Asgard.
- His first debut was in Comic Journey Into Mystery #97
Surtur is a character based on Norse mythology, which is also included in Marvel stories. Now he is a large fire demon who has a height of more than 1,000 feet, and is equipped with an attack tool in the form of a large sword that he always holds. Well, in fact, his first appearance at Marvel wasn't from the Thor comic, but from the comic entitled Journey Into Mystery #97 on October 1, 1963.
- Once Killed Odin's Two Brothers
Surtur, in the film and comic versions, is basically a Marvel character related to Odin, that's because Odin is his eternal enemy. So Odin and Surtur's meeting began with Odin's journey with his two brothers, Vili and Ve, who headed to Muspelheim. During that visit, Surtur had planned to destroy the world, but it was strongly opposed by Odin. After negotiations with Surtur failed, a fight ensued which unfortunately resulted in the death of the two Odin brothers by Surtur.
- Wants to Attack Earth for Revenge on Asgard
From Odin and Surtur's meeting in Muspelheim, Odin had to lose his two brothers, Vili and Ve. But Odin was not killed by Surtur, because Odin had already escaped from Surtur's hands before he killed him. Annoyed that Odin ran away from him, Surtur devised a revenge plan against Odin and the people of Asgard, in which he would attack Earth with all the power he had.
- Successfully Defeated By Odin
Because of Surtur's intention to destroy the world, Odin decided to stop him. So, even though he once ran away from Surtur, Odin finally returned to face Surtur. That's because he knows that Surtur must be stopped immediately, because he has plans to attack Earth with the reason of revenge against him and Asgard. Odin not only succeeded in defeating Surtur, but he also succeeded in imprisoning him in the core of the Earth.
- Once Collaborated with Loki
Surtur, who was imprisoned in the core of the Earth by Odin, suddenly gets a visit from Loki, the God of Mischief who is hungry for power and strength with a plan to make Surtur want to join him. Loki intends to cooperate with Surtur, that's because he wants Surtur to help him in attacking the people of Asgard. So to convince Surtur, Loki even offered to sacrifice the soul of his own mentor, Eldred.
- Incited Freyr to Fight the Aesir
In another story, to be precise, which was still in ancient times, Odin had intended to unite the two tribes, namely the Aesir tribe and the Vanir tribe into one tribe. So unfortunately, even though Odin had tried, the union of the two tribes failed because of Surtur, because Surtur had previously proposed help to the Vanir leader, Freyr, against the Aesir. So with that, there was a years-long war between the two kinds of God tribes.

In almost all films and games, Ragnarok will always be related to the character Surtur. In the process of its destruction, Surtur will cross the Bifrost and destroy Asgard with his sword named "Twilight Sword."
- Once Died Together with Ymir
The fire demon actually has a twin or brother, which is Ymir, a demon in the form of ice. So both Surtur and Ymir were thrown by the Sons of Satannish to different places by bringing bad luck too, Ymir was in Wakanda, while Surtur was in Antarctica. Luckily before the problem got bigger, Doctor Strange managed to move Ymir and Surtur right in front of the two of them, so that they indirectly attacked together and immediately exploded without a trace.
- Once Managed to Free Himself
Surtur in Marvel comics, is often told that he has been caught several times, then he has also been released several times, which on average he is free from the help of other people. However, Odin, Thor and Loki put up a last stand and eventually defeated Surtur, at the cost of Odin falling with Surtur into the dimensional rift.
- Besides Odin, Thor Is His Big Enemy
Not only in the movies, even in the comics, Thor will indeed be Surtur's big enemy. That's because apart from him often fighting with Odin in defeating Surtur, Thor is also the one Odin has trusted to stop and defeat Surtur once and for all. Well that happened once when Surtur and Odin returned to fight, but they fell into the abyss of Muspelheim. But Odin and Surtur returned, but Odin passed it on to Thor, who gave all of his power to Thor to fight Surtur, that is, by crossing time and space.
- Once Disguised As Odin
Surtur once disguised himself as Odin because he had a plan to destroy Asgard from within. Surtur, disguised as Odin, tells Heimdall that Ragnarok is in front of them and Ymir must be stopped. The soldiers go to fight Ymir, while Surtur reveals his true face to the Wazir. But unfortunately, Surtur's plans were thwarted by Thor who defeated him with the Twilight Sword in the Eternal Flame.
- Her Weakness Is Ice and Magical Powers
As a demon of the fire element, the strong Surtur has a weakness in the form of the ice element. So with these weaknesses, sometimes it makes Surtur very reluctant to be close to Ymir. Not only ice, Surtur's other weakness is magical power, which he is very vulnerable to when he is hit by a magical attack.
