T'Challa is one of the most missed characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because of the death of his actor, Chadwick Boseman. You could say the departure of T'Challa's character in his last film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, became a bright spot in the opening of Shuri's character who took over power from T'Challa.

The Dunia Games team will discuss some facts about T'Challa that you may not have known before. Let's see in more detail.

1. T'Challa Isn't the Only Black Panther

T'Challa may be the name Black Panther is best known for in the comics, but he's not the only one to have worn this mantle in his lifetime. While the movies show T'Challa inheriting the title from his father, in the comics, he wins the title in a fight with his uncle. T'Challa was actually defeated in a later battle by rival Erik Killmonger, though the latter never officially became the Black Panther.

A New York police officer, Kevin Cole, designed his own Black Panther costume and pretended to be the hero. Impersonation seems the most sincere form of compliment to T'Challa as Cole ends up being trained by T'Challa and takes over the mission in the United States. When T'Challa became ill, his younger sister Shuri also took up the mantle, something that fans of the movie hoped would materialize.

2. Met and Frozen Himself in the Future

Some of the most interesting artifacts are in Wakanda, and they can cause some strange things to happen in the comics. During the first issue of the solo original series, T'Challa goes on a mission to obtain King Solomon's Frog, a brass frog capable of interacting with time and space to time travel, and an artifact that is revisited decades later in the third volume of the series. The frogs pull T'Challa from the future, allowing him to interact with himself in the future.

He discovers that this version, from an alternate timeline as a result of the journey, has telepathic abilities and is terminally ill. Present T'Challa places future T'Challa in cryogenic stasis to temporarily stop the disease. Movie fans will remember that T'Challa's cryogenic chamber already appeared in the MCU when he put The Winter Soldier in stasis.

3. Thor Once Saved T'Challa from the Gods

Because T'Challa spent a lot of time as an Avenger in the United States, and was very far away from Wakanda for long periods of time. During one such absence, a protest occurs at the Avengers Mansion regarding T'Challa's US residence. A reporter covering the story demands that Black Panther accompany him. As it turns out, T'Challa recognizes the reporter as the Lion God, and agrees to return to Africa with him.

Instead, the Lion God plans to destroy the Panther God, which gives T'Challa his superhuman abilities. He's holding T'Challa prisoner. Eventually, the Lion God fought the Avengers in New York, and it was Thor who defeated him, struck him with lightning, and restored T'Challa's freedom.

4. T'Challa Joined with Fantastic Four

T'Challa is perhaps best known for his time with the Avengers. However, it's not just the Avengers that he has participated in. He and his ex-wife, Storm, were briefly part of the Fantastic Four. Given that the Fantastic Four only have four members, whenever a member decides to take a break, or disappears under mysterious circumstances, someone they trust will be asked to take their place.

T'Challa himself has met superheroes long before he decided to become a superhero known to the public. The Fantastic Four team's longtime relationship with the X-Men means they know Storm too. When Reed Richards and Sue Storm decide to take a vacation and at the same time T'Challa and Storm are in New York, the first couple asks T'Challa and Storm to stand in for them.

After their time with the Fantastic Four, T'Challa chose to return to Wakanda, while Storm remained in New York to help the X-Men.

5. T’Challa Joined a Clan

In his first solo adventure, T'Challa doesn't come up with his story in his own special comics. Instead, he appeared in the Marvel anthology series called 'Jungle Action'. The long story involving him in the first few issues is recognized as the first graphic novel by Marvel. However, the defining event in the second story is his confrontation with the enemy that has become a symbol of racism in the United States--the Ku Klux Klan. This storyline spanned most of 1976 and generated considerable controversy in its day.

Even though it was full of challenges for the comic team to publish this story, the story was warmly received by university students. In the story, T'Challa, in his civilian role, travels to Georgia to uncover the mystery behind the death of his lover's younger sister. During his time in the south, he was targeted by Klansmen, kidnapped and tied to a burning cross. However, he manages to escape their clutches and then bravely confronts the Clan leader in public, exposing their true identities to the people.

6. Raised By His Own Father

Characters in the Marvel universe often grapple with relationship issues with their fathers who aren't in their lives, but that's not the case with T'Challa. He lived most of his formative years with his father. His mother, N'Yami, barely appears in Marvel Comics stories because she died giving birth to T'Challa. Shortly after that incident, T'Chaka, T'Challa's father, married Ramonda, his second wife.

Ramonda later becomes Queen of Wakanda and gives birth to Shuri, T'Challa's younger sister. For years, T'Challa thought that Ramonda had left their family because she had mysteriously disappeared. However, it turned out that Ramonda had been kidnapped by a white supremacist during a demonstration. While T'Challa learns from his father how to lead a nation, Ramonda must live the harrowing experience of being a prisoner.

7. His Nickname is Luke Charles

As a nation's leader, T'Challa as a young man chose to go undercover to avoid the scrutiny that accompanied his royal status. Taking the name Luke Charles, T'Challa was educated in the United States and England. He has excelled in both academics and sports, thanks to his background in Wakanda, a nation advanced in technology and where he trained to become the Black Panther.

However, T'Challa isn't the only Wakandan resident to use an assumed name. His childhood friend, B'Tumba, also accompanies T'Challa to school so he doesn't feel lonely. In the Marvel Cinematic universe, members of the Dora Milaje from Wakanda also travel the outside world under multiple identities. As a self-isolating nation, Wakanda allows members trained in undercover (aka spies) to travel and provide reports on developments in the outside world.

8. Disbanded Wakanda's Secret Police, Hatut Zeraze

When T'Challa accepts the crown as King of Wakanda, he faces a huge task to live up to his people's expectations. He made his nation proud by disbanding the Hatut Zeraze, the state secret police. Hatut Zeraze is an important institution in Wakanda. Their job is basically to carry out dark acts that neither the royal family nor any other Wakandan military leader can execute.

They are similar to spies whose existence is never recognized by any country. T'Challa decides he doesn't want to lead a nation that uses the group to carry out assassinations around the world. However, when T'Challa disbanded Hatut Zeraze, he also cut ties with his adopted brother, Hunter, who was a member of the group. Hunter continued to lead Hatut Zeraze even though they were officially disbanded, and became an enemy to T'Challa from time to time, under the identity of White Wolf. The group then turned into a mercenary army.

9. Vibranium Makes Himself Rich

Even though for fans of the MCU movies, Tony Stark might be considered the richest person in the world of comics, T'Challa's wealth far exceeds that of Iron Man. His country, Wakanda, is also one of the richest in the world thanks to the existence of a metal called vibranium. True Marvel fans will be no stranger to vibranium, the same material used to create Captain America's shield, Ultron's body, and Nick Fury's special cube in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Vibranium can only be found naturally in Wakanda.

In the comics, vibranium arrives in Wakanda as a result of a meteor impact. These vibranium piles are then protected by state leaders from exploitation by outsiders. T'Challa sells vibranium in small quantities to scientists around the world. Its goal is not only to build wealth for the betterment of its own country, but also to support the advancement of science around the world.

10. Known as Doctor T’Challa

Many talk about T'Challa's younger sister, Shuri, as a genius in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but T'Challa himself is no less great. While attending college under an assumed name, T'Challa studied Engineering, Political Science, Economics, and Psychology. In fact, he earned his PhD in Physics while studying at Oxford.

This shows that many fans are looking forward to the interaction between T'Challa and Dr. Bruce Banner on the big screen. T'Challa is also known as the creator of a field called Shadow Physics. While we don't know much about this (fictional) science, what is certain is that it has allowed T'Challa to expand on his work with vibranium. He had actually found a way to track this metal on a quantum level, created weapons to use against it, and created his own teleportation device.

11. Exposed Daredevil's Identity

Black Panther and Daredevil have had a working relationship that has often developed after they met early in the Daredevil series. Their first meeting not only results in a partnership, but also allows T'Challa to quickly find out Daredevil's hidden identity. While working with the Avengers in New York, police officers mistook the Black Panther for Daredevil in the middle of the night. At that time, Daredevil was suffering from an illness and needed urgent medical attention.

T'Challa agrees to find Daredevil and tell him about the situation. However, after tracking down and aiding Daredevil in a battle, T'Challa accidentally learns of Daredevil's true identity. The villain in that issue, Starr Saxon, has managed to figure out Daredevil's identity and takes Karen Page hostage in Matt Murdock's apartment. Ironically, it was Saxon who leaked Matt Murdock's identity when he didn't realize that the Black Panther was watching their battle. Years later, Matt would trust T'Challa to take his place as Daredevil.

12. Expert in Tracking Everything

Armed with the abilities derived from his status as Black Panther, T'Challa is not just a genius creating new fields of knowledge, a politician looking for ways to help his people, or a great warrior. It also has many of the same abilities as the real Black Panther. His early appearances in the comics show T'Challa to be extremely agile and possess the agility of a cat. He also has no trouble seeing in the dark, even preferring darkness to light.

While cats are generally not known as trackers (a reputation that seems more suited to hunting dogs), panthers in particular have a very keen sense of smell, which allows them to track down their prey. T'Challa took his Black Panther abilities and honed them to make himself a capable tracker and hunter. It has actually memorized the tracks of thousands of animals, giving it an edge in wild environments.

13. One of the Biggest Donors For X-Men

Mutantes Sans Frontieres was formed by several prominent members of the X-Men as a way to protect the rights of mutants around the world. The charity organization, which in English is called Mutants Without Borders, was originally the brainchild of Beast and was organized by Archangel's Worthington Industries in San Francisco. Since it's a charity group, the mutants she works with do things like feed people in soup kitchens. However, since those early days, the organization has changed. The group also funds the X-Men, the team most often fighting for mutant rights and peaceful coexistence with humans.

Storm reveals in Astonishing X-Men that the team gets their funding from the charity, and not only that, the person funding the charity is now T'Challa. Meaning T'Challa is a king, an Avenger, a member of the Fantastic Four, and the man behind the X-Men.

14. A Coverboy Model

As a king and superhero, T'Challa is no stranger to public scrutiny. Fortunately for him, the public really liked him. According to an issue of Totally Awesome Hulk, throughout his career in comics, T'Challa has had the honor of being the "coverboy" of two different magazines numerous times. That cover story comes with some notable credits, too. He has been named the most handsome man by People magazine six times. He has also been named Time magazine's Person of the Year twice.

Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played T'Challa in the live action Black Panther, also has the honor of appearing on the cover of Time magazine in real life. This marks the first time a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie has managed to get the magazine's cover feature in the past decade.

15. Makes His Comic Debut in The Fantastic Four Comics

Although many of T'Challa's solo adventures took place within the Jungle Action anthology series, his debut did not occur within the same series. Instead, T'Challa made his debut with Marvel's first family - the Fantastic Four. Much like the Inhumans and many other heroes who would go on to earn solo titles, T'Challa first appeared as an antagonist to the Fantastic Four in the 1960s due to a misunderstanding. In issue 52, the king of Wakanda invites the four to his home, but to his surprise, he attacks them.

However, it was not really T'Challa's intention to make the group his enemy. Instead, he wants to test himself to make sure he's ready to face Klaw, the man responsible for his father's death. After he managed to defeat all four, he explained his purpose, and they became friends and allies.
