1. A User of the Water Breathing Techniques
As the Water Hashira, Tomioka Giyuu is certainly a master of the Water Breathing style, a technique that he shares mastery with the protagonist in Kimetsu no Yaiba, Tanjirou Kamado. Giyuu uses the Water Breathing techniques exceptionally well and had killed several demons using the technique.
Even when he went up against one of the Lower-Rank demons, Rui, Giyuu was able to kill him without breaking a sweat. This shows that Giyuu is a highly-skilled user of the Water Breathing technique.
2. The Pupil of Urokodaki, the Former Water Hashira
So, how did Giyuu learn the Water Breathing technique? Well, he learned it from a master who’s none other than Urokodaki, the Water Hashira before him who wears a red tengu mask.
Urokodaki is a powerful former Water Hashira who took care of Tanjirou and Nezuko.
3. The Second-Most Powerful Hashira After Gyomei
Of the nine Hashira in Kimetsu no Yaiba, Tomioka Giyuu is one of the five most powerful Hashira, the second-most powerful after Gyomei. Giyuu is undoubtedly a formidable Hashira as he can finish off even the most powerful demons with relative ease.
Even the Upper-Rank Demon Akaza considers Giyuu as the most powerful and skillful Water Hashira that he’s ever met in the last 50 years.
4. The Creator of the Eleventh Form
Usually, a user only possesses ten forms of a Breathing Style, Giyuu manages to create the eleventh form! The Eleventh Form: Dead Form, is the form that Giyuu used to kill Rui, the Lower-Rank demon.
Dead Form ceases the user’s movements to activate their abilities in deflecting incoming attacks. However, this form isn’t that effective against fast and consecutive attacks, which means he could be killed by lightning-fast attacks using this form.
5. Sabito’s Best Friend
Sabito is the masked character who appears in the early episodes of Kimetsu no Yaiba. Giyuu wears an exact haori as Sabito wore to commemorate his death.
Giyuu and Sabito both have a dark past where their respective families were killed by demons, and they became good friends after they shared their stories with each other. During the Final Selection, Giyuu was badly injured by a demon, and Sabito immediately saved him. Shortly after, someone else screamed and Sabito rushed towards the source of the noise, but he never came back after the incident.
Despite successfully passing the selection and becoming the Water Hashira, Giyuu feels tremendous pain as he failed to save his best friend.
