Yondu can be said to have started to shine since his presence in the first Guardian of the Galaxy Generation series and also his first debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many think that Yondu is a villain, but actually he is a good adoptive father for Peter Quill or Star Lord. There are many surprising facts about Yondu that can only be found in comics.
So, this time the Dunia Games team will discuss some facts about Yondu that you might not know before. Let's see in more detail.
- Yondu Was A Religious Man
So, of course, those of you who have watched the film Guardian of the Galaxy will disagree with this point. Yes, in fact, Yondu's appearance in the MCU and in the comics is very different. In the MCU, Yondu was introduced as a criminal as well as the leader of a criminal group called the Ravagers who carry out their actions in outer space. But in the comic version, Yondu is a very religious person and not a criminal.
- The Last Man of His Race
Yondu is actually a member of the Centaurian race, as well as a native of the planet Alpha Centauri IV, the first planet colonized by humans from Earth. Yondu was a hunter and member of a mountain tribe who moved to the plains to avoid humans, whom the Centaurians considered "impure". Alpha Centauri is then invaded by an alien race known as the Badoons. With their superior weaponry and technology, the Badoons annihilate the colony, as well as the Centaurians, leaving Yondu alone.
- Fascinated by Thor
When Thor traveled through time to the Guardian timeline, Yondu was immediately fascinated by the figure of the God of Thunder. A stunned Yondu decided to kneel before Thor and said that he could see the spirit of Anthos within him and tried to give his bow to Thor as a religious offering. In fact, the bow was one of his most sacred possessions, but Thor refused the offering and returned it to Yondu.
- Founder and Member of the First Generation Guardian of Galaxy
Long before Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax, and Gamora started calling themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy, the truth is that other superhero teams have used that name before them. Previously, Guardians of the Galaxy only consisted of four members, namely Vance Astro, Charlie-27, Martinex, and even Yondu. They are all founders as well as members of the Guardians of the Galaxy which were introduced in Marvel Super Heroes #18 in 1969.
- Successfully Beat The Thing by Making Him Dizzy
Yondu's mainstay both in the comics and in the MCU, is Yaka's arrow which he can aim or control with his whistle. So in the comic version, Yondu once faced a member of the Fantastic Four, The-Thing, who was very hard to penetrate by his arrows. Knowing that the arrows would be ineffective against The Thing, Yondu directed his arrows to circle The Thing until he was so dizzy that he passed out.
- The Fin on His Head is Called "Tahlei"
Yondu in movies or in comics, is famous for having the appearance of using fins on the top of his head. But you need to know, the fins on his head are not fins, but a symbol of his race or nation. In fact, the fin has its Centauri name as "tahlei." But unfortunately, even though you already know the name, the function itself is still quite secret, especially Yondu himself who doesn't want to tell.
- His Head Is Very Sensitive
Now the fin on Yondu's head is the tahlei, which is thought to be part of Yondu's race or ritual. But even so, Yondu's tahlei or fins were not allowed to be held by anyone, so that made Yondu lazy to discuss it. Yondu will be very sensitive to his head fins, which he will get very angry when someone touches them. For example, Yellowjacket (Rita DeMara) touched his tahlei, causing Yondu to become very angry.
- Very Friendly with Nature
As a devotee of Anthos, Yondu as a Centaurian would feel a deep bond with the land, plants and animals. They believe that spirits are all around them in nature. It is for this reason that Yondu never feels more alive than when he is out in the wilderness. Then when it rained, Yondu felt that a spirit was communicating with him. For him, rain is nature's tears, because the spirits are sad about the Centaurians who have been slain by the Badoons.

- Yondu Wants Photon to Be His Life Partner
Photon is a female Centaurian of the same race as Yondu, not only that she is also a member of the Force, a team of extraterrestrial criminals who are the antithesis of the Guardians. Now knowing Photon is of the same race as him, Yondu, who always feels sad that he is the only Centaurian race, decides he wants to be close to Photon. Not only close, Yondu wants to make Photon his partner to create life for the extinct Centaurian.
- Turns Into Violent When He Finds Out He Was Rejected By Photon
Yondu really wanted to marry Photon, because he knew that Photon was of the same race as Centaurian. But still, Photon's rejection frightened him, which could hit him hard. Yondu, who was devastated, eventually turned him even more violent and finally snapped and attacked his team-mates. But in the next meeting, Yondu, who wanted to kill Photon, reconciled and separated.
- Replacing His Lost Hand with Sophisticated Weapons
When Yondu almost killed Photon, his leader Interface was so angry that he used his elemental transmutation ability to turn Yondu's hands into water. With his hand gone, Yondu can no longer use his bow. But Martinex has another way, namely using the ship's facilities to give Yondu advanced hands that can give him access to various weapons, such as swords and axes, or maybe even lasers.
- Has Telepathic Ability Related to Spirits
Yondu was a Habaktu, which put him on par with both warriors and saints. As a mystic, Yondu can telepathically connect with spirits. When he needed guidance from Anthos, he lit a fire and plunged himself into the spirit world. If Yondu joins his teammates, he can even show them visions in the fire.
- Don't Really Like Technology
Yondu in the comics, is the Yondu who is known as a natural man instead of a modern world man, despite the fact that he lives in the 31st century. Yondu's hatred of technology causes him to spend most of his time meditating in his own room. Where did he do it while handing over the task of driving the ship to the other Guardians. Another proof that he doesn't like technology is that he once refused to allow an intercom in his room.
- Ever Retired Being a Guardian of the Galaxy for the Sake of Living with His Race
Yondu once had a vision from Anthos telling him to return to his home planet, which was rumored to have been extinct for a long time. But Yondu, who teleported to Alpha Centauri IV, instead found that his tribe had survived the Badoon invasion. Later, Yondu decided to settle down on the planet with his race, which also included leaving the Guardians of the Galaxy.
- Yondu in Comics Was Changed to Look Like the MCU Version
If the MCU characters are inspired by the comics with lots of changes, Yondu's character is the opposite, a comic that follows the MCU version. Yondu is a Marvel character, which in the MCU version has influenced the comic version. So that happened right in the Star-Lord comic in 2015, where a new Yondu character appeared that was different from the old version, a version inspired by the MCU.
