1. Had a Cameo Appearance in 2nd Opening of Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen fans may not be familiar with the name Yuta Okkotsu. However, some manga fans might be aware of Yuta’s cameo appearance in the second opening of Jujutsu Kaisen.

In that opening, there’s a scene where Yuta looks back at the camera, with his katana strapped to his back.

2. He Was Initially Planned to be the Main Protagonist

Before Yuji Itadori was introduced to the audience, Gege Akutami made Yuta Okkotsu the main protagonist in the one-shot Volume 0. The short series was a massive success, which eventually landed Gege Akutami a contract with Shonen Jump to produce a weekly manga titled Jujutsu Kaisen.

In other words, the weekly series in which Yuji Itadori stars wouldn’t have been made if Gege Akutami hadn’t introduced the jujutsu world from Yuta Okkotsu’s perspective.

3. An OP Protagonist

Shonen has always been synonymous with OP protagonists. However, most of the shonen anime today have begun to ditch this pattern.

Most shonen anime today are starting to avoid having an OP character – as we can see from Yuji Itadori. Yuji is a rather silly character who’s also not insanely powerful given his lack of understanding of jujutsu.

Whereas Yuta is an OP protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 as he’s naturally gifted with cursed energy and has the competence to manipulate it well.

4. Was Initially a Cursed Human

A cursed human is someone who died after being killed by a curse or those still living while being haunted by a cursed spirit. Initially, Yuta Okkotsu was a special grade cursed human haunted by his late childhood friend.

Yuta lives his life in guilt and fear that he or Rika might hurt others.

5. A Second-Year Student at the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College

Similar to Yuji and Megumi, Yuta is also one of the students at the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College (Jujutsu High) after being enrolled by Satoru Gojo. Yuta spent his first year at the academy with Maki, Toge, and Panda.

As Yuji and Megumi’s senior, Yuta does deserve the same respect as they have for Maki and Toge.

After traveling overseas, Yuta inevitably became a much more powerful character. Not just his body, his katana is also brimming with cursed energy. 

Satoru Gojo once admitted that Yuta actually has more cursed energy than him.

7. Possesses More Cursed Energy Than Gojo

Yuta actually possesses far more cursed energy than Satoru Gojo, the current most powerful jujutsu sorcerer in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe. If Yuta keeps on practicing and improving as a sorcerer, sooner or later, he’ll surpass his mentor as the most powerful sorcerer.

Gojo’s Six Eye cursed technique does allow him to see others’ cursed energies. With this technique, Gojo can gauge his students’ potential by measuring their cursed energy reserves.

Gojo claimed that Yuta’s cursed energy reserve actually surpasses his.

8. One of the Few Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen

Only five characters in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen manga have earned the title of special grade jujutsu sorcerer. Those five sorcerers are Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, Yuki Tsukumo, Masamichi Yaga, and Yuta Okkotsu.

We have seen what Yaga and Gojo are capable of in the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen. So, we are already aware of just how powerful these special grade jujutsu sorcerers are.

However, Yuta is a unique case as he earned the title despite lacking comprehension of jujutsu. But nonetheless, he can still eventually become the most powerful jujutsu sorcerer of his generation.
