1. Schindler’s List (1993)

This film tells the story of a genius mathematician named John Forbes Nash, who's extremely shy and introverted. However, he's quite arrogant and proud of his intelligence. He refuses to go to college as he believes that lectures are just a waste of time. His takes a turn when he's asked by the Pentagon to crack a code from the Soviet Union. As he gets more and more obsessed with his work, he begins to lose track of time and gets stuck in his own world.
3. The Pianist (2002)
This movie is set in WW2 Poland, focusing on a piano player named Wladyslaw Szpilman who has to escape from the Nazi soldiers. This film depicts the cruelty of the Nazi soldiers at that time, how innocent people got burned, shot dead, and executed on the streets. This film, which is based on a true story, will teach you a lot about the dark history.
4. Memories of Murder (2003)
This South Korean movie follows an investigation about a murder-and-rape case that involves 14 teenage girls and women in Hwaseong from 1986-1991. This film is perfect for those of you who are into mystery and thriller movies with gripping and enigmatic storylines. You will learn the horror that the victims had to go through and how the perpetrator committed these heinous things. In real life, the perpetrator, Lee Chun Jae, has been arrested. And this movie manages to adapt the case exceptionally well.
5. Hotel Rwanda (2004)
This movie is also based on a true story, where a hero is born in the midst of turmoil between the Tutsi and Hutu ethnic groups in Rwanda. Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager, helps more than 1,200 Tutsi Rwandan and give them refuge from a genocide by the Hutu. Paul's heroic deed in the midst of a chaotic situation is very interesting to see in a movie. While rescuing them, Paul also helps comfort and calm the hotel refugees, including some of his neighbors who are of Tutsi descent.

6. United 93 (2006)
The tragedy of September 11, 2001 in the United States still leaves a deep sorrow for many people. On that day, the Al-Qaeda militant group succeeded in hijacking 4 passenger jets, of which two planes crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, while another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. United 93 was one of the planes hijacked by the terrorist group. This movie depicts the hijacking situation that occurred on the fourth plane, namely United 93, before it finally crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania and killed the entire crew and passengers.
7. Into the Wild (2007)
This movie tells the story of a young man named Christopher McCandless, who lives a comfortable life. Despite living a good life, he doesn't feel happy. He eventually decides to go on a trip. He finds the meaning of life throughout his journey. He meets many new people who make their lives more meaningful. But his life doesn't go smoothly when he arrives in the Alaskan wilderness. Follow the excitement of his journey as well as the things that he learns about the meaning of life through this film.
8. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007)
The French movie of the original title "Le Scahandre et Le Papillon" tells the story of Jean-Dominique Bauby, an editor at Elle magazine in 1995, when he's 43 years old. This film revolves around Jean's condition, who's almost completely paralyzed, except for his left eye. Through his left eye, Jean tries to describe the aspect of the world he has in mind.

The storyline of this movie may sound familiar to those of you who know the story of the adorable dog named Hachiko. Hachiko is a dog who teaches what loyalty means, which is the message that this movie tries to convey. Hachiko is a dog who befriends a lecturer at a train station. This lecturer, Parker, takes care of Hachiko with great care. Hachiko always drops Parker to the train station and waits for him to return in the afternoon. Until one day, Parker dies from a fall, and this is where the audience learn how loyal Hachiko is.

This film is based on the true story of the sixth King of England, Prince Albert. He never expected to become king of England, but fate said otherwise, and he finally ascends the throne and becomes the successor of King George V. Albert, who has limitations when it comes to public speaking, panics. To overcome this, Prince Albert takes a speech therapy with an unconventional therapist named Lionel Logue, who has a strange yet effective method. In this movie, you will follow Albert's struggle to overcome his weakness.
11. 127 Hours (2010)
This movie is based on the story of Aron Ralston, a mountain climber who got trapped in Blue John Canyon for 5 days 7 hours (127 hours in total). In this movie, you'll see how Aron struggles to survive every second in his living hell. He has to endure hunger, and only relies on a limited amount of food and water, a penknife, and the camcorder he originally brought to make vlogs. You can also feel the tense atmosphere, especially when Aron has to face with the difficult decision that involves life and death.

This movie tells the life story of Neil Baldwin, who, despite his learning disability, always fights for his life. Neil Baldwin always sees everything from positive perspectives. He also believes that limitations will not hinder his happiness. Neil loves the circus so much that he works as a clown at a circus show called Nello and becomes known as Nello the Clown.

This movie tells the true story of the suppression of the press that occurred in the United States in the 70s. The story is about Kay Graham, Ben Bradlee, and a team of reporters from The Washington Post who try to reveal the Pentagon Papers to the public. The Pentagon Papers is a secret document belonging to the US Department of Defense that reveals the secrets of the United States government's involvement in the Vietnam war to the public. 15. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019)
